Collection and Evaluation of Local Ber Germplasm (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was conducted at the Fruit Research Station, Binodpur, Rajshahi with ten local and exotic ber varieties/ lines during September, 2018 to April, 2019. Fruit weight was recorded the highest in BARI Kul-3 (38.7 g) followed by BARI Kul-2 (34.6 g) whereas, the lowest fruit weight was observed in Umboli Kul (15.7 g). The higiest rate of total soluble solid (TSS) was recorded in Umboly Kul-1 (17.4 %) followed by Apple Kul and BARI kul-1, while the lowest TSS was observed in BARI kul-2 (12.4%). BARI Kul-3 gave the highest yield (25.27 t/ha) and the lowest yield was obtained from Umboli Kul (10.25 t/ha).

Objectives:

To selecting the promising varieties for recommending them at farmer’s level.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Fruit Research Station, Binodpur, Rajshahi during September, 2018 to April, 2019. The experimental materials were matured ripe fruits of seven ber varieties/lines namely ZM Raj-001 (Apple Kul)), ZM Raj-002 (BARI Kul-1), ZM Raj-003 (BARI Kul-2), ZM Raj-004 (Chapai Kul), ZM Raj-012 (Local Kul Late), ZM Raj-014 (BARI Kul-3), and ZM Raj-016 (Umboli Kul). Fifty fruits from each plant of each of three replications were plucked randomly which were used for studding physical characteristics. Data on fruit characteristics, stone characteristics, quality, harvesting period and yield were under taken. The information on different characters were statistically analyzed.

Achievement/Findings:

BARI Kul-1, BARI Kul-2 and BARI Kul-3 are already recommended to farmers for growing in Bangladesh. Among the other lines, Local Kul (Late) was found to be very promising for late season.
