In-situ Evaluation of Year Round Pummelo Germplasm (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was conducted at the Hill Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Khagrachari during the year 2018-19. One off-season pummel Germplasm (CG Kha-001) was selected for the evaluation along with a normal season control. Mainly year round bearing occurred in the germplasm. Maximum numbers of mature (27) and immature (95) fruits were found in the month of March and November, respectively. Average fruit weight was 1.39 kg. Maximum edible portion was obtained (38.22%) and the highest TSS (10.4%). The average number of fruits per month (12.67) was collected from CG Kha-001. Consideration of fruit characteristics, edible quality, TSS, percent edible portion and yield potentialities, the germplasm CG Kha-001 was found promising.

Objectives:

To select high yielding desirable line for year round bearing.

Methodology:

An year round pummelo germplasm (CG Kha-001) was selected for the study at Protabpara, Khagrachari. Manures and fertilizers were applied at the rate of Cowdung 15kg, Urea 500 g, TSP 400 g and MoP 450 g per plant. All the nutrients were applied in two equal installments before and after rainy season. Irrigation was given at 15 days interval during dry season. Fruits from each month were randomly selected for evaluation. Fully matured fruits were harvested from the plant and data on different parameters were recorded after ripening.

Achievement/Findings:

The number of fruits per month, fruit weight, Edible portion (%) and TSS (%) were found satisfactory. Flesh of the CGKha001 line was soft, juicy, bitter less and very sweet in organoleptic taste. Therefore, CGKha 001 was found promising for year round cultivation of pummelo at hilly region.
