Collection and Evaluation of Bullock’s Heart Genotypes (20185-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was carried out at Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Ishurdi, Pabna, during the period from March to May, 2019 to find out the superior genotypes of bullock^’s heart (Annona reticulata L). Thirteen genotypes were identified and fruits were collected from the plants in different locations of Ishurdi upazila. Data were collected in respect of fruit length, fruit breadth, as well as quality parameters like pulp content, edible portion, TSS % and yield per plant. The genotypes AR Isd 001, AR Isd 002, AR Isd 004, AR Isd 005, AR Isd 009 and AR Isd 013 were found to be superior among the germplasm in this study.

Objectives:

To identify the plants and collect the fruits of bullock’s heart from different area to evaluate and find out the superior genotypes for further investigation.

Methodology:

Fruits of thirteen genotypes of bullock’s heart were collected from the farmers’ household or roadside and other places from plants of different locations of Ishurdi upazila. The fruits were collected at mature stage to ripe. Data were collected on fruit weight, skin weight, seed weight, number of seeds, fruit length, fruit breadth, edible portion (%), total soluble solids (%), number of fruits per plant, yield per plant. The qualitative characteristics were determined through organoleptic taste by a panel of judges.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, yield per plant, edible portion, total soluble solids, taste and eye appeal; the genotypes AR Isd-001, AR Isd-002, AR Isd-004, AR Isd-005, AR Isd-009 and AR Isd-013 were found superior through this study. These genotypes should be conserved and go for further investigation.
