Collection and Evaluation of European Plum Germplasms in Chattogram Region (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali in Chattogram during 2018-19 for the evaluation of five European plum genotypes. The highest number of fruits was obtained from germplasm PD Pah-001 which is recorded as 140 followed by PD Pah-003 which is noted as 32. The lowest number of fruit was found from germplasm PD Pah-002 which is 25. The individual weight, fruit length, fruit breadth, seed length and seed breadth was more in PD Pah-001 than other germplasms. But the edible portion and TSS of germplasm PD Pah-002 was 93.08% and 11.92 which is higher than other germplasms.

Objectives:

To develop a suiTable variety in context of ecological condition of Bangladesh As it is gaining popularity day by day.

Methodology:

European plum genotypes were collected from different parts of Bangladesh and planted to the fruit orchard of Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali, Khulshi, Chattogram during 2016-2017. There were five European plum genotypes viz. PD Pah-001, PD Pah-002, PD Pah-003, PD Pah-004 and PD Pah-005. Manures and fertilizers were applied @ 15 kg cowdung, 500 g urea, 350 g TSP and 400 g MoP per plant per annum in three equal installments. Intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The performance data of these genotypes were taken duly.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering individual weight, fruit length, fruit breadth, seed length and seed breadth PD Pah001 can be considered as promising line. Considering TSS and edible portion PD Pah-002 can be considered as a promising line. Though it was first data collection, evaluation will be needed next consecutive year.
