Collection and Evaluation of Jamun Germplasms in Chattogram Region (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali in Chattogram during 2018-19 for the evaluation of five jamun genotypes.The highest number of fruits was attained from germplasm SC Pah-007which is recorded as 494. The lowest number of fruit was observed from Germplasm SC Pah-003 which is 8. Germplasm SC Pha-001 and SC Pha-001 did not bloom. Fruits can be harvested from SC Pha-007 and the fruits of other germplasm were drop off. Individual fruit weight was 13.30 g. The fruit length and breadth was 3.31cm and 2.43 cm respectively. The seed weight was 2.75 g while the length and breadth of the seed was 2.42 cm and 1.29 cm respectively. The TSS and edible portion was recorded as 15.22 and 79.32 % respectively.

To develop jamun variety in Bangladesh

Methodology:

Jamun germplasm were collected from different parts of Bangladesh and planted to the fruit orchard of Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali, Khulshi, Chattogram during 2016-2017. There were five jamun genotypes viz. SC Pah-001, SC Pah-002, SC Pah-003, SC Pah-004 and SC Pah-007. Manures and fertilizers were applied @ 15 kg cowdung, 500 g urea, 350 g TSP and 400 g MoP per plant per annum in three equal installments. Intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The performance data of these genotypes were taken duly.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering the yield and fruit characteristics germplasm SC Pah-007 can be considered as a promising line. Though it was first data collection, evaluation will be needed next consecutive year.
