Life Cycle Events of Dragon Fruit Genotype at Norsingdi Egion (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted for evaluation of six dragon fruit genotypes at RHRS, Shibpur, Norsingdi during 2018-19. Maximum plant height (367.06 cm) was observed from the HU Nar-04 and the lowest plant height (289.56 cm) was recorded from the HU Nar-03. 1^st Flower initiation took place last week of April, 2019 and the range of flash number was recorded in 6 to 8. Range of bud to flower setting was measured 15 to 18 days and flower to fruit setting was measured 6 to 7 days. The highest length of flower was recorded in HU Nar-04 (31.00 cm). Average fruit weight was ranged from143.27 – 340.23 g. The highest yield per pillar was recorded in HU Nar-04 (6.42 kg) whereas the lowest was HU Nar-05 (2.29 kg). Maximum edible Portion and TSS was recorded in 77.72 % as well as 14.5% in HU Nar-01.

Objectives:

To select varieties and to develop production package of Dragon fruit.

Methodology:

The investigation was carried out at RHRS, Shibpur, Norsingdi during 2018-19. Initially six genotypes of dragon fruit were collected from the RHRS Comilla, BAU, Mymensingh, HRC, Gazipur and Farmers field of Narsingdi, and planted on June 2013 with a spacing 2 ´ 2 m. Plants were supported by RCC pillar. A 24 inches diameter reject motor tire was fixed on top of each pillar to allow the plants to grow properly with fringe of twigs. The plants were managed properly through watering, fertilization and other cultural practices. The recommendations of fertilizer rates N₅₄₀P₃₁₀K₂₅₀ g/pillar along with 20 kg of cow-dung manure (Chakma et al., 2014) were applied in four installments. Plant protection measures were also taken as and when necessary. The data on growth parameters, life span, floral parts and fruit characteristics were recorded. Mean were calculated to investigate the nature of data which derived from different attributes to evaluate the genotypes.

Achievement/Findings:

The result revealed that dragon fruit periodical harvest duration was recorded in last week of May to middle month of October at Norshingdi. Considering morphological, floral and fruit characteristics it was found that HU Nar-01, HU Nar-04 and HU Nar-06 performed better than that of other genotypes.
