Manipulation Through Grafting & Pruning for Dwarf Shape of BARI Released Mango Variety (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study on manipulation through grafting & pruning for dwarf shape of BARI released mango variety was conducted at RHRS, Chapai Nawabganjduring 2018-19. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications with having 4 m X 5 m plant spacing. The study comprised of seven treatments. The first grafting in all treatments was done in 29 may, 2018.This year, Second grafting was done in the four treatments in 29 May, 2019. Among the remaining three treatments, cutting main stem 5 inch above grafting was done this year in the treatment T₅ while normal grafting was done in the treatment T₁and single grafting at the height of 5 inch was done in T₂treatment last year.

Objectives:

To determine the manipulation through grafting & pruning for dwarf shape of BARI released Mango variety

Methodology:

The study was conducted at the Regional Horticulture Research Station, Chapai Nawabganj during 2018-19. The experiment was carried out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications with having 4m X 5m plant spacing. However, insect, disease and other cultural operations such as irrigation, weeding, mulching etc were done as and when necessary. The experiment comprised of seven treatments. The following treatments were used: T₁= Control (Normal grafting), T₂= single grafting at the height of 5 inch, T₃= Double grafting at the height of 5 inch interval, T₄= Triple grafting at the height of 5 inch interval,T₅= single grafting at the height of 5 inch + Cutting main stem 5 inch above grafting,T₆= Double grafting at the height of 5 inch interval + Cutting main stem 5 inch above grafting,T₇ = Triple grafting at the height of 5 inch interval + Cutting main stem 5 inch above grafting. Thirty days old 21 seedlings were planted in the experimental field.

Achievement/Findings:

According to the treatments, second grafting was done in the four treatments in 29 May, 2019. Among the remaining three treatments, cutting main stem 5 inch above grafting was done only in the treatment T₅. This is the 2^nd year experimental result. So, this experiment should be continued.
