Management Practices to Overcome Fruit Cracking of Mango Cv. BARI Aam-3 (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Akbarpur, Moulvibazar during 2018-2019 to overcome fruit cracking for producing quality mango of BARI Aam-3 variety. Five treatments were included in this study such as T₁-spraying with boron two times; T₂-Use of black plastic mulch; T₃-Spraying with boron two times and use black plastic mulch, T₄-T₃+fruit bagging and T₅-control (Normal management practices). Mangoes are susceptible to different insect-pest and diseases.In this experiment, BARI Aam-3 was selected in order to produce quality mango fruits. Balanced fertilizers were used in the month of July and black plastic mulch was used in the month of April. Finally, the mango fruits were bagged on 50 days after fruit set. In this experiment, the highest fruit cracking (40.74 percent) was recorded from control treatment and the lowest from T₄(17.64 percent). Anthracnose infection was recorded the highest (62 percent) from T₅ and the lowest (8 percent) from T₄.The highest (22%) TSS was recorded from T₃ and T₄ and the lowest (21%) recorded from T₁, T₂ and T₅.

Objectives:

To overcome fruit cracking for producing quality mango of BARI Aam-3 variety.

Methodology:

This experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Akbarpur, Moulvibazar during 2018-2019. Five treatments were included in this study such as T₁-spraying with boron two times; T₂-Use of black plastic mulch; T₃-Spraying with boron two times and use black plastic mulch, T₄-T₃+fruit bagging and T₅-control (Normal management practices). Manure and fertilizers were used as Uddin et al., 2018. Dolochun was used at the rate of 1.5 kg per tree. Irrigation was provided three times started with March month and continued upto 15 April. The tree base (fertilizer application zone) was covered by black plastic mulch in the month of March and continued up to fruit harvest. Boron spay was done two times@ six gram per liter at pea stage and marble stage of mango.

Achievement/Findings:

From the experimental results, it is concluded that treatment T₄that’s spraying with boron two times, used black plastic mulch covering tree canopy and used fruit bag performed the best considering fruit cracking results, insect infestation, anthracnose infection, qualitative parameters and quantitative characters. This is the first-year experiment. It will be continued next two years for final conclusion.
