Post Harvest Diseases of Fruits and Vegetable (2018-2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Disease samples of capsicum, brinjal, tomato, cauliflower, cucumber, country bean, banana, straw berry, beal, grape and orange were collected from vegetable and fruit research field of Horticulture research centre, BARI, Gazipur during October 2018 to May 2019. Disease symptoms appeared on fruits. Fusarium sp. & Alternaria sp.were identified from capsicum; Fusarium sp., Alternaria sp. & Diplodia sp were identified from brinjal; Chladosporium sp., Odiodendron sp, Candida sp. & Alternaria sp were identified from cauliflower; Fusarium sp was identified from cucumber; Colletotrichum sp. identified from country bean, Fusarium sp.,Chladosporium sp & Colletotrichum sp. were identified from banana; Fusarium sp. , Chladosporium sp, Pestalotia sp. & Aspergillus sp. & Penicillium sp. Rhizopus sp. were identified from straw berry and Fusarium sp. , Chladosporium sp. & Diplodia sp., Aspergillus sp., Penecilium sp. were identified from grape and orange.

Objectives:

To identify post harvest diseases of fruits and vegetables.

Methodology:

A survey was conducted in fruit research field, vegetable research field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during October 2017 to May 2018. A frequent visit was made to collect samples. Source of planting materials, management practices and economic losses were caused by the diseases. Data was collected on disease identification. Orchard visit were done whenever necessary to verify the disease unidentified samples collected for laboratory identification. The vegetables and fresh fruits like tomato, brinjal, cauliflower, cucumber, countrybean, capsicum, banana, straw berry, grape and orange etc samples were collected. Vegetables and fruits were preserved for identification of pathogen by using microscope.

Achievement/Findings:

Fusarium sp., Alternaria sp., Diplodia sp., Chladosporium sp., Odiodendron sp, Candida sp., Colletotrichum sp., Rhizopus sp., Aspergillus sp.and Penecilium sp.were identified from vegetables and fruits. However the study was 2^nd year. Further study is necessary for finding.
