Experiments were conducted to investigate, the growth performance of two broiler parent stocks of foreign origin reared in. open-sided bottles following restricted feeding programme. One hundred seventy-seven and 120 day-old broiler parent chicks belonging to strain A gold B, respectively were reared at Bangladesh Agricultural University Poultry Farm in two different trials from day-old to commencement of laying. Compound balanced parent feeds were offered to chicks and feed allocation was controlled at the end Of each week during 3-22 Weeks of age and then fortnightly on the basis of comparison between target body weight anti-achieved body weight. Bodyweight and feed consumption data were compared with their respective standards. Flock Uniformity was calculated and evaluated flout 8 weeks pilot to the point of pre-breeder naiad (22 weeks). Livability data were also evaluated. It can be concluded from the observations that (i) target bodyweight of broiler parent stocks of foreign origin was close to the standard under Bangladesh conditions; (ii) flock uniformity was either acceptable or close to the acceptable value particularly for females but varied between sex.; (iii) sexual maturity was delayed inspite of achievement of bodyweight close to the target; (iv)the effect of stress on growth and uniformity may be minimized in open-sided houses but difficult to eliminate completely under Bangladeshi conditions and (v) livability during the rearing period.was satisfactory.

To generate data op the growth pattern and  FU of two broiler parent stock of foreign Origin reared in open-sided houses at different times following a feed restriction pro ammo.

The parent stocks considered in this study belonged to two famous broiler strains (Strain A and strain B) commonly reared in Bangladesh. Upon arrival from Bangkok at day-014, they were collected at Zia International Airport, Dhaka and transported to Bangladesh Agricultural University Poultry Farm to carry out the experiment. The number of birds at the initial stage was 177 and 120 for strains A and B, respectively: The growth trial was conveniently carried out in 4 phases. The details are given in 'Able 1. The chicks were housed in pens of a long east-faced house. The size of each pea was 6.4m X 6.1in x 2.4m. Two such pens were used for rearing each strain of bird at different times. Each pen had 0.91M wall and 1.5m wire-net covering at the front and back, respectively. FiVe experimental plots (each measuring, 3.05m x 2.1m) were -made inside each of the Pens and the birds were accommodated thereby providing adequate floor space on the basis of their growth phase. On arrival at the experimental farm, the chicks were Ateighed And distributed to experimental pens that had been prepared and fumigated earlier. They 'were provided with electrolytes and 5% glucose solution for the first 3 hours to overcome dehydration and transportation stress. Subsequently, small particles of yellow corn were provided On newspapers that spread on jute clothes to initiate feeding. Feeding such a way Was carried out for the first 12 hours. Then they were switched over to a usual parent-starter diet. Vitamins (Dodecal VVS manufactured by F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Switzerland) were also added to drinking water. A broiler parent-starter feed with a nutrient density close to their requirements was: fed to chicks from day old to 8 weeks of age (Phase 1 and Phase II). The birds were switched over to a broiler parent-grower as soon as they 'cached weights close to the target at 8. weeks (Phase, 111). Feeding of parent-starter diet was continued for underweight birds of the same replicate until their weights reached the growth target close to their inmates. The grower was fed from 8 to 22 weeks old. Feeding of prebreeder diet was started at the end of '22 weeks of age and continued until laying commenced. Feed allocation was controlled during phases II to IV on the basis of comparisons between target body weight and achieved body weight. An increase in the allowance of 1g feed for each 50g underweight bird was made. The birds that achieved the growth target (with+10% Variation) were treated as standard weight group and they were fed Asper allowances recommended for them. For the ease of correct, feed allocation and management, birds were regrouped, where required, on the basis of achieved body weight and fed accordingly in order to bring them up to the target. The birds were exposed to environmental conditions available for the reason of the year. In cases of the severity of cold weather, heat stress and stormy weather, efforts were made to minimize the effects, as far as possible. A vaccination programme was prepared and executed on the basis of diseases prevalent in Bangladesh. Medication was done as and when required.

It can be concluded that the achieved BW of broiler patent chicks was close to the standards in an open-sided house; uniformity was either acceptable or close to the acceptable value in most of the weeks of rearing period (8-22 weeks) although it varied between sex and strain of birds. Sexual maturity was delayed in spite of achieving 13W close to the target. The effect of stresses like extreme cold, heat stress and diseases on productivity was minimized through effective management but was difficult to alleviate completely in open-sided houses. Livability during the growth phase was satisfactory. More work is required with different strains in different seasons to generate more information.
