Field Screening of Selected Mungbean Lines Resistant to Yellow Mosaic Visurs (ymv) and Cercospora Leaf Spot (cls) (2018--2019)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Regional Pulses Research Station (RPRS), Madaripur during Kharif-I, 2019 to evaluate the performance of mungbean genotypes for searching of Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) and Cercospora Leaf Spot (CLS) disease resistant and high yielding lines. Twenty-one mungbean lines with a check BARI Mung-6 were evaluated in the trial. Results revealed that BD-6941 and BMMP-201508 gave the lowest MYMV score (3.33) where the line BMMP-201511 gave the highest (6.33) score. A wide variation of CLS disease reaction was observed among the genotypes. The highest yield (1500 kg/ha) obtained in BMMP-201518 and BMMP-201519 and the lowest (600 kg/ha) in BMMP-201516.

Objectives:

To find out suitable mungbean lines which are more tolerant to MYMV having the high yielding capacity and to use resistant host is most important to find out a useful way of management of this disease.

Methodology:

The field trial was conducted at Regional Pulse Research Station (RPRS), BARI, Madaripur during Kharif-I, 2019 under rainfed conditions. Twenty-one genotypes/lines viz. BD-6941, BD-6943, BMMP-201501, BMMP-201502, BMMP-201503, BMMP-201504, BMMP-201506, BMMP-201508, BMMP-201510, BMMP-201511, BMMP-201512, BMMP-201513, BMMP-201514, BMMP-201515, BMMP-201516, BMMP-201517, BMMP-201518, BMMP-201519, BMMP-201520, BMMP-201524, BMMP-201525 and one check BARI Mung-6 were evaluated in the trial. All the genotypes were selected from the previous year trial consisted of 42 genotypes of Kharif-I, 2017. The experiment was laid out in Lattice design. The spacing was 40 cm X 05 cm. Seeds were sown on March 10, 2019. Two weeding were done to keep the crop weed-free up to first picking. MYMV data are taken on a 0-8 scoring scale (Malik, I. A. 1992) and CLS (0-8) scoring ( Haque et al. 1994)

Achievement/Findings:

Among the 21 lines, 6 lines expressed a resistant reaction against YMV. The lines were BD-6941, BMMP-201501, BMMP-201508, BMMP-201512, BMMP-201515, BMMP-201518. However, 8 lines showed resistance to a moderately resistant reaction against CLS. The lines were BD-6941, BMMP-201503, BMMP-201504, BMMP-201511, BMMP-201512, BMMP-201514, BMMP-201515 and BMMP-201524. Considering overall performances the line BMMP-201518 was found to be best.
