Observational Trial of Tissue Cultured Pineapple Plantlets Under Field Condition (2019--2020)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This experiment was conducted at Biotechnology Division research field of BARI during the period from November 2018 to June 2020. The tissue cultured plantlets of Baby pineapple were used in this study. The plant height ranged from 34-55 cm and the average height was 43.77 cm. The leaf length ranged from 30-56 cm and the average length was 40.27 cm. The leaf breadth ranged from 3-5 cm and the average breadth was 4.17 cm. The fruit length ranged from 6.00-8.50 cm and the average length was 7.26 cm. The fruit diameter ranged from 10.50 - 13.50 cm and the average diameter was 12.12 cm. The single fruit weight ranged from 195-392 g and the average weight was 279.91 g. TSS ranged from 17.00-18.50%.

Objectives:

The present investigation is undertaken to observe the performance of tissue cultured plantlets in respect of the growth of plants, yield and quality of fruits.

Methodology:

This experiment was conducted at Biotechnology Division research field of BARI during the period from November 2018 to June 2020. The tissue cultured plantlets of Baby pineapple were used in this study. The cultured plantlets were planted in a one-meter width bed in two rows. The line to line distance was 50 cm and the plant to plant distance was 40 cm. Fertilizers were applied as per the recommendation of HRC, BARI.

Achievement/Findings:

The planted tissue cultured plantlets gave flowers after 15 months after planting in February 2020. Different growth and yield parameter data were collected at the time of harvesting from 33 plants. In the case of plant height, the tallest plant was 55 cm and the shortest plant was 34 cm. The average plant height was 43.77 cm. Leaf length was varying from 30 cm to 56 cm. The average leaf length was 40.27 cm and the leaf breath was 3 to 5 cm and the maximum breath was 5 cm. The leaf-spine was present in all plants. In the case of fruit length, the longest fruit was 8.50 cm and the smallest fruit was 6.00 cm. The average fruit length was 7.26 cm. In the case of fruit diameter, it was ranged from 10.50 cm to 13.50 cm and the average diameter was 12.12 cm. Fruit weight was varying from 392 g to 202 g and the average weight was 275.91 g. TSS was measured from three fruits sample. It ranged from 17.00-18.50%. The average TSS percentage was 18.17.
