A field experiment was conducted at the research field of Pulses Research Centre, Regional Agriculture Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during 2017-18 to determine the optimum rates of phosphorus for lentil-mungbean-T.aman rice cropping pattern and to reduce the rate of P fertilizer application by the inclusion of cowdung and poultry manure. There were 8 treatments viz T1=P0, T2= P16 kg/ha, T3=P 32 kg/ha, T4=P 48 kg/ha, T5=P 16 kg/ha+Cowdung 5 t/ha, T6=P 16 kg/ha + Poultry manure 3 t/ha, T7 = P 32 kg/ha + Cowdung 5 t/ha, T8= P 32 kg/ha +Poultry manure 3 t/ha. The experiment was designed as a randomized complete block with three replications. The result showed that the application of different levels of P and manures proved effective in significantly enhancing the nodulation, yield attributes and seed yield of lentil. The tallest plant, number of branches and maximum number of pods per plant were recorded from the P fertilizer with cowdung and poultry manure treatments. Seed yield of lentil was significantly influenced by organic and inorganic sources of phosphorus. Maximum seed yield was found in the treatment T5 and T6 (P fertilizer with manure). This was significantly higher than the other treatments. The maximum numbers of nodules were recorded from treatment T8 (P 32 kg/ha with 3 t/ha poultry manure) in all the nodules collection dates which were significantly higher than the other treatment. The lowest nodule values were obtained from the P control treatment. Maximum net return TK. 168000/ha was obtained from the treatment T6 (P 16 kg/ha with 3 t/ha poultry manure). The highest benefit-cost ratio 3.83 and 3.80 were recorded from the treatment T5 and T6 (P fertilizer with manure). Therefore, it may be concluded that 16 kg/ha phosphorus fertilizer along with cowdung 5 t/ha or poultry manure 3 t/ha with a blanket dose of N20K20S10 Zn2 B1 kg/ha may be considered as economically sound and optimum fertilizer dose for yield maximization of lentil production in High Ganges River Floodplain soil under lentil-mungbean-T.aman rice cropping pattern.

It is important to determine a suitable dose of phosphorus and their integration with manures for a higher yield of lentil-mungbean-T.aman rice cropping pattern. In view of this, the present study has been designed to determine the optimum rates of P and manures for lentil-mungbean-T.aman rice cropping pattern.

 

The experiment was conducted at the research field of Pulses Research Centre, Regional Agriculture Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during 2017-18 to determine the optimum rates of phosphorus by the inclusion of manures for lentil-mungbean-T.aman rice cropping pattern and to reduce the rate of P fertilizer application by the inclusion of cowdung and poultry manure. The initial soil samples collected from the experimental plot from a depth of 0-15 cm and were analyzed in the laboratory following standard methods. The trial consisted of eight nutrient treatments such as T1=P0, T2= P16 kg/ha, T3=P 32 kg/ha, T4=P 48 kg/ha, T5=P 16 kg/ha + Cowdung 5 t/ha, T6=P 16 kg/ha + Poultry manure 3 t/ha, T7 = P 32 kg/ha + Cowdung 5 t/ha, T8= P 32 kg/ha +Poultry manure 3 t/ha along with the blanket dose of N20K20S10 Zn 2 B1 kg/ha. The experiment was designed as a randomized complete block with three replications. The unit plot size was 4m×3m. Nutrients N-P-K-S-Zn-B was supplied from Urea, TSP, MP, Gypsum, Zinc sulphate and Boric acid, respectively. All the fertilizers were applied during the final land preparation. The variety was BARI Masur-8. Seeds were sown on 28 November 2017 at a rate of 30 kg/ha continuous in line at a depth of 2 to 3 cm below the soil surface. One irrigation was applied immediately after seed sowing. Intercultural operations such as thinning, weeding, applying insecticides were done as and when necessary. The mature plants of lentil were harvested on 15 March 2018. Data on grain yield were collected from the whole plot and stover data were counted from 2 square meters but all the yield components namely: plant height, branches/ plant, number of pods/plant, number of seeds /pod and 1000 seed weight were collected from ten plants selected randomly from each unit plot. Collected data were statistically analyzed through MSTAT-C package. In this study, BCR was calculated for a hectare of land. Treatment-wise management cost was calculated by adding the cost incurred for labours and inputs for each treatment. The total yield after each harvest was calculated separately for every treatment and accumulated at the end of the final harvest. The total yield of each treatment was converted for determining yield (t/ha). This yield was utilized to calculate the gross return. This was measured by multiplying the total yield by the unit price of lentil at that time. Net return was calculated by subtracting management cost from gross return.

The effect of P fertilizers in combination with cowdung and poultry manure influenced the growth and yield of lentil. Application of different levels of P and manures proved effective in significantly enhancing the nodulation, yield attributes and seed yield of lentil. Result reveals that 16 kg/ha phosphorus fertilizer along with Cowdung 5 t/ha or poultry manure 3 t/ha with a blanket dose of N20K20S10 Zn 2 B1 kg/ha may be optimum fertilizer dose for yield maximization of lentil production in a calcareous soil under lentil-mungbean-T.aman rice cropping pattern. Lentil was the first crop in this pattern. After completion of the pattern, a concrete conclusion may be drawn.
