A field experiment was conducted in Madhupur tract soil of Gazipur (AEZ-28) during the year 2017-2018 to determine the suitable fertilizer dose in the cropping pattern Lentil-Mungbean-T.aus-T.aman through the nutrient budget that will sustain soil fertility and productivity. There were six different treatments viz. T1: control (native nutrient), T2: 50% of the recommended dose, FRG, 2012 T3:75% of the recommended dose, FRG, 2012 T4:100% of the recommended dose, FRG, 2012 T5:125% of the recommended dose, FRG, 2012 T6: Farmers practices per locality. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The highest lentil (1777 kg ha-1), mungbean (1040kgha-1), T.aus rice (4497 kg ha-1) and T.aman rice (4804 kg ha-1) yield was produced from the treatment T4 using 100% of recommended dose applied in 2017-2018. The yield obtained from this treatment was statistically superior to all the other treatments in the pattern and the lowest yield was in the control treatment.

The present investigation was aimed at achieving the following objectives.

1) To determine the suitable cropping pattern.

2) To evaluate the suitable fertilization management through the nutrient budget that will maintain sustainable soil fertility and productivity

A field experiment on Lentil-Mungbean-T. aus-T. aman cropping sequence was conducted in the research field of Pulse Research Sub-station, BARI, Gazipur under AEZ-28 during the year of 2017-2018. The initial soil samples, collected before establishing the experiment from a depth of 0-15 cm were analyzed in the laboratory following the standard method. Important soil chemical parameters of the experimental soil. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. There were six treatments viz.T1: control (native nutrient), T2: 50% of recommended dose according to FRG, 2012 T3:75% of recommended dose according to FRG, 2012 T4:100% of recommended dose according to FRG, 2012 T5: 125% of recommended dose according to FRG, 2012 T6: Farmers practices per locality for different plots randomly. Lentil was used as a crop for the first component of the pattern. Each treatment was sown in unit plot having 3m × 4m with the spacing of 30 cm between rows. Spacing between two plots and replications to replication were 1m and 1.5m respectively. Seeds were sown at a depth of 2 to 3 cm below the soil surface on 12 November 2016 and 17 November 2017 at Gazipur. Experimental plots were fertilized with NPKSZnB supplied from urea, TSP, MP, Gypsum, Zinc Sulphate and Boric acid respectively. All NPKSZnB were applied at the time of final land preparation. The remaining two-thirds of N was applied as top-dressing at 30 and 60 days after sowing. One irrigation was applied immediately after seed sowing. Intercultural operations such as thinning, weeding, applying insecticides were done as and when necessary. Weeding was done 20 days after the emergence of the crop. Lentil was harvested on 4th March 2017. Plant samples and post-harvest soil samples were collected from each plot for chemical analysis but result not yet obtained. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically using ‘R’ software package.

After lentil, mungbean was sown in unit plot having 3m × 4m with the spacing of 30 cm between rows. Spacing between two plots and replications to replication were 1m and 1.5m respectively. Seeds were sown at a depth of 2 to 3 cm below the soil surface soil on 6th March 2017. All N- P-K-S-Zn-B were applied at the time of final land preparation. One irrigation was applied immediately after seed sowing. Intercultural operations such as thinning, weeding, applying insecticides were done as and when necessary. Weeding was done 20 days after the emergence of the crop. The mungbean was first harvested on 10 May and 2nd harvest was done on 13 May 2017. Plant samples and post-harvest soil samples were collected from each plot for chemical analysis but result not yet obtained. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were recorded and analyzed statistically using ‘R’ software package.

For T. Aus rice, BRRI dhan 48 was used in the experiment. Transplanting was done on May 15, 2017, maintaining the spacing of 20cm x 15 cm. All fertilizers including one-third of N were applied before transplanting. The rest of N was applied in two installments at 15 and 45 days after transplanting and harvested on 14 August 2017. For T.aman rice (BRRI dhan 62) was used transplanted was done on May 16 August 2017 maintaining the spacing of 20 cm x 15cm. All fertilizers including one-third of N were applied before transplanting. The rest of N was applied in two installments at 15 and 45 days after transplanting and harvested on 16 November 2017.

1.   Budget:

From the experiment, it was calculated that 204 kg N, 63 kg P, 78 kg K, 48 kg S, 4.5 kg Zn and 1.2 kg B were used in the treatment T3, but in the treatment T4 it was calculated that 212 kg N, 84 kg P 104 kg K, 64 kg S, 6.0 kg Zn and 1.6 kg B were used. It was revealed that the grain yield of all the crops included in the pattern did not differ significantly between the treatment T4 and T3, although BCR of T4 treatment is higher than T3. Therefore, 8.0 kg N, 21.0 kg P, 26kg K 16 kg S 1.5 kg Zn and 0.4 kg B less amount of fertilizers were applied in the T3 treatment. Therefore, farmers can use lower doses of fertilizers as well as can save Tk. 6094 ha-1compared to T4 treatment achieving yield without statistical significance. Finally, it can be concluded that fertilizers at the rate of 75% of recommended dose according to FRG, 2012 in the Lentil-Mungbean-T.aus-T.aman rice cropping pattern we can get a higher yield of crops with a higher economic return.
