Growing and Evaluation of Blackgram F4 Generation (2016--2017)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Six F₄s were grown along with checks to advance the generation at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna during Kharif II, 2016. 8-15 plants from different cross combinations were selected and harvested separately which will be grown in the next Kharif II season.

Objectives:

The trial was conducted in F₄generation to advance towards more homozygosity among the progenies.

Methodology:

Six F₄ progenies along with the check BARI Mash-3 were grown at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna during Kharif-II, 2016. Seeds were sown in the field on 01 September 2016. Each entry was grown in a unit plot of 1-10 rows of 4m long with a spacing of 40 cm x 10 cm. Spacing between two adjacent plots was 40 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully by hands at 3 cm depth and then covered by soils. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Mulching was done and soil crusts were broken. Intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. Plant characters were investigated from seedling to harvest

Achievement/Findings:

On the basis of desired characters, sixty-eight single plants were selected. Among different cross combinations, 8-15 plants were selected from each entry. Seeds of each selected F₄ plants were collected and stored separately for further evaluation in the F₅generation. From the above study, six progenies of blackgram have been selected which will be grown in F₅ generation in the next Kharif II season.
