Screening of Lentil Germplasm Under Relay Condition (2016--2017)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Nine promising entries of lentil with BARI Masur 6 as check were evaluated at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna during Rabi season of 2016-17 which was laid out in RCB design with 2 replications to select suitable genotypes for relay with T. aman rice. Significant differences among the genotypes were observed in the case of all the yield contributing characters except pods/plant. RL 12-178 was the tallest (89 cm) and BLX-06004-12 was the dwarf (32.6 cm). Bold seeded entry was identified RL 12-181 (3.22 gm) and small-seeded was WB-14 (1.75 gm) on the basis of 100 seeds weight. Among the entries, the maximum yield (1681 kg/ha) was obtained from BLX-06004-2 followed by DPL-62 (1535 kg/ha) and RL 12-178 (1374 kg/ha). After considering other attributes, three entries viz. BLX-06004-2, DPL-62 and RL 12-178 were selected for relay with T. aman rice.

Objectives:

This program is taken with a view to evaluate the performance of different advanced lentil genotypes under relay condition

Methodology:

The experiment consisted of ten entries where 9 promising advanced genotypes collected from PRC, Ishurdi and 1 outstanding variety of lentil (BARI Masur-6) used as a check. The location of the experiment was at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna during Rabi 2016-17 which laid out in a RCB design with 2 replications. Each entry was sown in unit plot of 2 rows × 4 m long with a spacing of 40×10 cm. Seeds were sown in between the T. aman rice rows carefully by hands-on wet soil 15 days prior to the rice harvest. For this experiment, a short-duration aman rice field (BINA Dhan 7) was used. Rice was harvested keeping 20 cm straw at the field. Rice straw was quickly removed from the field to save the lentil seedlings. Recommended doses of fertilizers were applied before the seed sowing. Each of the entries was investigated from seedling to harvest and compared with check. Grain yield was calculated from the whole plot. Yield data was recorded from the whole plot and converted into kg/ha. The statistical analysis was done using MSTATC computer software

Significant differences among the genotypes were observed in the case of all the yield contributing characters except pods/plants. The entry LRIL-21-109 flowered (39 days) and matured earlier (91 days) with the minimum yield (721 kg/ha) followed by BLX-04005-9 (62 days & 116 days). Among the entries, RL 12-178 was the tallest followed by BLX-06004-2 (50.4 cm) and BLX-06004-12 (32.6 cm) followed by LRIL 21-109 was the dwarf (33.7 cm). The maximum final plant stand (89) was recorded from entry RL-12-178 with moderate yield potentiality (1374 kg/ha) and the minimum was recorded from WB 74 (58). Bold seeded entry was RL 12-181 and small-seeded entry was WB-14. Among the entries, the higher yield (1681 kg/ha) was obtained from BLX-06004-2 followed by DPL-62 (1535 kg/ha) and RL 12-178 (1374 kg/ha). After considering other attributes, those three entries BLX-06004-2, DPL-62 and RL 12-178 were selected as fit for relaying with T. aman rice. Considering yield and yield contributing traits, three entries BLX-06004-2, DPL-62 and RL 12-178 were selected for further evaluation as a relay with T. aman rice in large plot size.
