The experiment was carried out with 47 germplasm of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) at Plant Genetic Resources Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) Gazipur during 2016-17 to study the genetic diversity. Poor, good, and very good early plant vigour were found among the germplasm. Erect, medium, and procumbent plant growth habits were exhibited. Low and profused branching habits were observed. Linear and triangular shapes of epicalyx segments were found among the germplasm.

The experiment was undertaken to study the genetic diversity, identify salient features and identify the accessions having useful traits.

The experiment was conducted at Plant Genetic Resources Centre (PGRC) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur during Kharif season of 2016-2017. Forty-seven germplasm were used in this study. The seeds were sown on 6th April 2017. The seed of each germplasm was planted in a 3x3 m prepared plot. Line to line 50 cm and plant to plant 50 cm spacing were maintained. Recommended fertilizer dose and intercultural practices were followed. Both qualitative and quantitative data were recorded as per minimal descriptor of agri-horticultural crops (Part I) (Mahajan et al., 2000)

All the germplasm of okra showed morphological variations in the characters except immature and mature fruit colour, leaf colour and position of fruit on the main stem. Poor (42.55%), good (34.04%) and very good (23.40) early plant vigour were found among the 47 germplasm of okra. Erect (63.83%), medium (31.91) and procumbent (4.26%) plant growth habit was exhibited among the okra germplasm. Low (74.47%) and profused (25.53%) branching habits were observed at the vegetative stage. Linear (97.87%) and triangular (2.13%) shape of epicalyx segments was noted among the accessions. The only characterization based on qualitative data is recorded.
