Qualitative characters among 31 pigeon pea accessions were observed. Variations were observed in qualitative characteristics among the 31 pigeon pea accessions. Growth habit was erect and compact for 8 accessions (25.81%), semi-spreading for 2 accessions (6.45%), spreading for 6 accessions (19.35%) and trailing for 15 accessions (48.39%). Stem colour was green for 1 accession (3.23%), sun red for 4 accessions (12.90%), purple for 13 accessions (41.94%) and dark purple was for 6 accessions (19.35%). Variations were observed in stem thickness such as intermediate (5-13 mm) for 15 accessions (48.39%) and thick (>13 mm) for 16 accessions (51.61%). Leaflet shape varied four categories as lanceolate for 5 accessions (16.13%), narrow-elliptic for 4 accessions (12.90%), broad-elliptic for 19 accessions (61.29%) and Obcordate for 3 accessions (9.68%). Leaf hairiness varied in two categories such as glabrous for 4 accessions (12.90%) and pubescent for 27 accessions (87.10%). Vigour at 50% flowering varied three categories from low for 4 accessions (12.90%), intermediate for 9 accessions (29.03%) and high for 4 accessions (58.06%). Four categories were observed in base flower colour like ivory for 2 accessions (6.45%), light-yellow for 9 accessions (29.03%), yellow for 15 accessions (48.39%) and orange-yellow for 5 accessions (16.13%). The second flower colour was observed in two categories such as red for 15 accessions (48.39%) and purple for 16 accessions (51.61%). The pattern of streaks varied into two categories as the medium amount of streaks for 22 accessions (70.97%) and dense streaks for 9 accessions (29.03%). Three categories were observed variations in flowering patterns like as determinate for 11 accessions (35.48%), semi-determinate for 11 accessions (35.48%) and indeterminate for 9 accessions (29.03%). Pod colour varied into four different categories observed as green for 8 accessions (25.81%), purple for 4 accessions (12.90%), mixed, green and purple for 12 accessions (38.71%) and dark purple for 7 accessions (22.58%). Pod form varied flat for 25 accessions (80.65%) and cylindrical for 6 accessions (19.35%). All the 31 accessions (100.00%) of pigeon pea observed pod hairiness only pubescent. Seed colour pattern was observed variations as plain for 2 accessions (6.45%), mottled for 17 accessions (54.84%), speckled for 6 accessions (19.35%), mottled and speckled for 3 accessions (9.68%) and ringed for 3 accessions (9.68%). Variations were observed among 31 pigeon pea in base seed colour as a cream for 2 accessions (6.45%), orange for 4 accessions (12.90%), light brown for 3 accessions (9.68%), reddish-brown for 9 accessions (29.03%), purple for 7 accessions (22.58%), dark purple for 1 accession (3.23%) and dark grey for 1 accession (3.23%). Seed eye colour observed variations like white for 3 accessions (9.68%), cream for 2 accessions (6.45%), light brown for 7 accessions (22.58%), reddish-brown for 15 accessions (48.39%), grey for 1 accession (3.23%) and purple for 3 accessions (9.68%). Three categories were observed in seed eye width as narrow for 6 accessions (19.35%), medium for 12 accessions (38.71%) and wide for 13 accessions (41.94%). Seed shape was observed in three categories as oval for 7 accessions (22.58%), globular for 10 accessions (32.26%) and square for 14 accessions (45.16%). Hilum was absent for 8 accessions (25.81%) and present for 23 accessions (74.19%). Biotic stress susceptibility very low or no visible sign of susceptibility for 17 accessions (54.84%), low for 3 accessions (9.68%), intermediate for 3 accessions (9.68%), high for 3 accessions (9.68%) and very high for 5 accessions (16.13%). Quantitative characteristics among thirty-one pigeon pea accessions were observed. Days to 50% flowering, duration of flower, days to 75% maturity, plant height (cm), number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, number of tertiary branches per plant, raceme number, pod bearing length (cm), number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, number of seeds per plant, 100-seed weight (g) and yield per plant (g) differed significantly among the accessions. Days to 50% flowering was noticed early in accession BD-3112 (181.00 days). The duration of the flower was varied from 211.00 days to 279.00 days. The minimum duration of flower 211.00 days was observed in Nouga Local where maximum duration was found 279.00 days in BD-3122 genotype. Days to 75% maturity varied from 260.00 to 319.00 days. Among the genotypes, 18 accessions showed maximum days to 75% maturity (311.00−319.00 days), 11 accessions gave moderate days to 75% maturity (297.00−310.00 days) and the rest 2 accessions produced early maturity for minimum days to 75% maturity (260.0−268.00 days). Plant height varied from 221.17cm to 415.00cm while 17 accessions were long (358.33−415.00 cm), 10 accessions were medium (328.33−350.00 cm) and rest genotypes were dwarf (221.17−296.67 cm). The number of primary branches per plant varied from 2.33 to 9.00 while 17 accessions showed the highest number of primary branches per plant (6.00−90.00), 9 accessions gave the moderate number of primary branches per plant (4.00−5.67) and the rest genotypes produced the lowest number of primary branches per plant (2.33-3.67). The number of secondary branches per plant varied from 6.33 to 19.33 while 12 accessions showed the highest number of primary branches per plant (13.33−19.33), 14 accessions gave the moderate number of primary branches per plant (9.00−12.67) and the rest of the accessions produced the lowest number of primary branches per plant (6.33-8.67). The number of tertiary branches per plant varied from 35.33 to 60.67, among them 4 accessions showed the highest number of primary branches per plant (35.33−39.67), 11 accessions gave the moderate number of primary branches per plant (41.33-49.33) and the rest accessions produced the lowest number of primary branches per plant (50.00-60.67). Raceme number varied from 50.33 to 141.00, among the germplasm 8 accessions showed the highest raceme number per plant (101.00−141.00), 15 accessions gave moderate raceme number per plant (75.33−96.00) and rest accessions produced the lowest raceme number per plant (50.33−74.67). Pod bearing length varied from 10.33cm to 49.67cm, among the germplasm 3 accessions showed the highest pod bearing length (39.00−49.67cm), 15 accessions gave moderate pod bearing length (21.00−38.67cm) and rest accessions produced the lowest pod bearing length (10.33−20.67cm). The number of pods per plant varied from 118.33 to 1436.11. Among the genotypes, 2 accessions showed the highest number of pods per plant (1071.23−1436.11), 8 accessions gave a moderate number of pods per plant (645.68−960.82) and rest lines produced the lowest number of pods per plant (118.33-569.57). The number of seeds per pod varied from 3.00 to 5.00. Among them, 7 accessions showed the highest number of seeds per pod (5.00), 15 accessions gave the moderate number of seeds per pod (4.00) and the rest accessions produced the lowest number of seeds per pod (3.00). The number of seeds per plant varied from 488.89 to 5744.40. Among them, 6 accessions showed the highest number of seeds per plant (3028.99−5744.44), 18 accessions gave the moderate number of seeds per plant (1180.45−2827.38) and the rest 7 accessions produced the lowest number of seeds per plant (488.89−1054.13). 100-seed weight varied from 5.80 g to 14.00 g, among 31 genotypes, 14 accessions showed maximum 100-seed weight (10.30−14.00 g), 13 accessions gave the moderate number of 100-seed weight (8.30−9.90 g) and rest 4 accessions produced the lowest number of 100-seed weight (5.80−7.70 g). Yield per plant varied from 51.33 g to 517.00 g, where BD-3111, Nouga Local, BD-3133 and BD-3121 were high yielding (314.00− 517.00 g per plant), 21 accessions were moderate yielding (118.33− 297.33 g per plant) and the rest 6 accessions were low yielding (51.33−93.33 g per plant). The highest seed yield (517.00 g per plant) was recorded from BD-3111 pigeon pea accession and the lowest yield (51.33 g per plant) from BD-3125 pigeon pea accession.
