Evaluation of Fieldpea Genotypes (2019--2020)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre, Ishwardi, Pabna and RPRS, Madaripur during Rabi 2019-20 to find out suitable and high yielding genotypes/variety of fieldpea. Seven genotypes and two check variety viz. BARI Motor-1 and BARI Motor-3 were evaluated in this trial. Results revealed that all the yield contributing characters under study were significantly different among the genotypes. The maximum number of pods/plant obtained from BD-4142 and lowest in IPSA pea-3. Mean 100 seed weight ranged from 5.53-22.86 g. Maximum 100 seed weight obtained from Sekim local followed by BD-4209 and minimum in Faridpur local followed by BARI Motor-1. The mean yield of the tested genotypes varied from 1172 -1788 kg/ha. Comparatively the tested entries performed better yield at Madaripur than Ishwardi. None of the tested entries out yielded the check BARI Motor-3 except IPSA pea-3. For confirmation of the results, the trial should be repeated in the next year in both locations.

Objectives:

To find out the suitable one(s). Production of field pea differs from region to region. So, the study was undertaken to screen out the high-yielding germplasm having suitability in different regions/locations.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre (PRC), Pabna and RPRS, Madaripur during Rabi 2019-20 to find out the suitable and high yielding genotype/s of fieldpea. Seven genotypes and two check varieties viz. BARI Motor-1 and BARI Motor-3 were evaluated in this trial. Eight genotypes were Sekim Local, BD-4209, IPSA pea-3, Faridpur local, BD-4142, BD-4223, and BD-9047. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCB) with three replications. The unit plot size was 4m × 4 rows and spacing was 50 cm × 5 cm. Seeds were sown in the rows carefully at 3-5 cm depth and covered by soil on 23 November 2019 at Ishwardi and 24 November 2019 at Madaripur. All recommended fertilizers were applied as basal dose during final land preparation. Mulching was done and soil crusts were broken. Each of the entries was investigated from seedling to harvest and compared with checks. At maturity, the best individual lines were selected on the basis of plant type, disease reaction, insect susceptibility, and higher yield. Grain yield was recorded from the whole plot and converted into kg/ha, other yield contributing data were recorded from ten randomly selected plants. Data were analyzed statistically by using Statistics-10 software.

In the experiment tested genotypes/variety showed significant differences in respect of yield and yield contributing characters. Mean days to the flower of field pea were varied from 47-68 days. According to mean values, the maximum days to flower were recorded in Faridpur local followed by BD 9047 and minimum in IPSA pea-3. The range in mean days to maturity was varied from 95-107 days. The maximum days to maturity were recorded in Faridpur local followed by BD 9047 and minimum in IPSA pea-3. Mean plant height ranged from 87.2-118.4 cm. The plants of Ishwardi were comparatively taller than the plants of Madaripur. The highest mean plant height was recorded in BARI Motor-3 followed by Sekim local and lowest in Faridpur local followed by IPSA pea-3. The mean number of pods/plants varied from 20-32. The maximum number of pods/plant obtained from BD-4142 and lowest in IPSA pea-3. Mean 100 seed weight ranged from 5.53-22.86 g.
