Effects of Foliar Application of Flora on Growth and Yield Parameters of Lentil (2019--2020)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre (PRC) and Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) during the Rabi season of 2019-20 to investigate the effects of foliar application of flora on yield and yield components of lentil. There were four concentration levels of FLORA @ 1.0 ml/water, 2.0 ml/water, 2.5 ml/water, 3.0 ml/water were applied to the plant which was compared to control (untreated control water spray and absolute control). Foliar applications of FLORA were carried out three times at different growth stages of lentil (24 DAS, 49 DAS and 74 Days). The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design and replicated three times. Parameters measured were grain and straw yield, plant population/ m², plant height, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod and 1000 grain weight. There were no significant differences between the foliar applications of flora for any of the measured parameters of lentil. Although the yield of lentil was not significantly affected due to the foliar application of flora, the experiment will be repeated in the next year for the conclusion.

Objectives:

An experiment has been planned to find out the effect of foliar application of flora on yield and yield components of lentil.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at the Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna, Bangladesh. The soil of the experimental site belongs to Agro-Ecological Zone – 11 (High Ganges River Flood Plains). The mean annual rainfall of about 1200 ± 300 mm. The experiment was sown on 25 November 2019 and harvested on 9 March 2020. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replicated three times. The unit plot size was 12 m² (4 m X 3 m). There were four concentration levels of FLORA @ 1.0 ml/water, 2.0 ml/water, 2.5 ml/water, 3.0 ml/water were applied to the plant which was compared to control (untreated control water spray and absolute control). Foliar applications of FLORA were carried out three times at different growth stages of lentil (24 DAS, 49 DAS and 74 Days). The lentil variety of BARI Masur 8 was used in this experiment. The recommended nutrient such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium @ 20-40-20 kg/ha were applied as basal dose at final land preparation. Similar agronomic management practices were done as per requirement for all the treatments. One hand weeding at 25 days after sowing was performed to control the weed. Fungicide, insecticide, and pesticide were applied as per the requirement to manage disease, pest and insect if any. Data were recorded for grain and straw yield, plant height, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, and 1000 grain weight. Data were analyzed statistically using R software. The means differences among the treatments were compared by the least significant difference test (LSD) at 0.05 levels.

Achievement/Findings:

In 2019-20, the plant population/m², plant height, number of branches/plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 1000 grain weight, 50 % flowering, grain yield of lentil were not significantly affected by the foliar application of flora. The results suggested that the lentil yield and yield components were not responsive to foliar application of flora at three different stages of lentil. The yield and yield components of lentil did not differ significantly among foliar applications of flora. However, this experiment needs to be continued for the next year for a concrete conclusion
