A field experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna during 2019-20 to find out the efficacy of herbicides on weed control and crop response in lentil. Eight treatments viz. T1= Whip super 9EC (Pre-emergence), T2= Weednil 5 EC (Pre-emergence), T3= Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence), T4= Whip super 9EC (Pre-emergence and post-emergence ), T5=  Weednil 5 EC (Pre-emergence and post-emergence ),  T6= Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence) and Whip super 9EC (post-emergence), T7= Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence) and Weednil 5 EC (Post-emergence),  T8=  Whip super 9EC (Post-emergence), T9=  Weednil 5 EC (Post-emergence), T10=  Hand weeding and T11= Control (No weeding) were included in this experiment. Herbicides were applied at the moist condition of soil after irrigation for proper seed germination that means pre-emergence condition and post-emergence at 20 Days after lentil emergence. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence) with Whip super 9 EC (post-emergence) and Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence) with Weednil 5 EC (Post-emergence) were suitable treatments for weed control in lentil. These gave higher branches plant-1, pods plant-1 and consequently gave higher yield. The highest gross return, gross margin, and BCR were obtained from T7.

The present study has been undertaken to find out the suitable herbicide to control weeds effectively and economically to increase the yield of lentil.

The experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna during 2019-20 under AEZ-11. Eleven treatments viz. T1= Application of Whip super 9EC (Fenoxiprop-p-Ethyl, 750 ml ha-1) in Pre-emergence, T2= Weednil 5 EC (Quizalofop-p-Ethyle, 650 mL ha-1), T3=Panida 33 EC (Pendimethalin, 2.5 L ha-1) in Pre-emergence, T4= Whip super 9EC (Pre-emergence+post-emergence) T5=  Weednil 5 EC (Pre-emergence+post-emergence), T6= Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence) + Whip super 9EC (post-emergence), T7= Panida 33 EC (Pre-emergence) +  Weednil 5 EC (post-emergence),  T8=  Whip super 9EC (post-emergence), T9=Weednil 5 EC (post-emergence), T10=  Hand weeding, T11=  Control (No weeding) and were included this experiment. Herbicides were applied at the moist condition of soil after irrigation after seed sowing for proper seed germination that means pre-emergence condition and herbicides were applied in post-emergence at 20 days after emergence. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The plot size was 6 m x 3 m. The sowing date was on 28 November 2019 and harvested on 24 March 2020. Seeds of BARI Masur-8 were used @ 35 kg ha-1. In the experimental plots fertilizers, @18-24-30-18-2.0-1 kg ha-1 N-P-K-S-Zn and B were applied during final land preparation (FRG-2012). Weed samples were collected from 1 m2 area of each plot at 35 DAS and weed dry matter was taken after oven dry. Plant population m-2 at harvest and yield contributing characters were recorded from 5 randomly selected plants from each plot and grain yield was calculated as kg ha-1. The recorded data were statistically analyzed and the mean values were adjusted by LSD at 0.05 levels of probability.

Cyperus rotundus (Mutha), Digitaria sanguinalis (Anguli Grass), Echinochloa colonum (Khuda shama), Chenopodium album (Bathua), Cynodon dactylon (Durba), Eclipta alba (Kesoti), Euphorbia hirta (Dudia), Mikania scandens (Mikania), Physalis minima (Fosks begun) and vicia sativa (Bonmasur) were major weeds in lentil field. Weed biomass had a significant difference among the treatments. In the case of broadleaf, the lowest weed biomass was obtained from T7 (8.36 g m-2) which was statistically similar with T7 and T10. The highest weed biomass (25.87 g m-2) was gained from T11. Weed control efficiency was the highest in T7 (68%) and the lowest in T5 (41%). Similarly, in narrow leaf weed, the lowest weed biomass was obtained from T6 (0.09 g m-2) which was statistically similar to T6 and T3. Weed control efficiency was the highest in T7 (93%) and the lowest in T1 (50%). On the other hand, in sedge weed, the lowest weed biomass was obtained from T10 (0.05 g m-2) and the highest weed biomass (1.18 g m-2) was gained from T11. Weed control efficiency was the highest in T7 (95%) and the lowest in T4 (22%). Whip super, Panida and Weednil controlled the narrow leaf weed and sedge weed. Plant height seeds pod-1 and 1000-seed weight had no significant effect among the treatments. The number of branches plant-1 was the highest in T7 (8.18) and the minimum number in T11 (5.37). The maximum number of pod plant-1 was counted in T7 (68) which was statistically similar to T6 and the minimum number of pod plant-1 in T11 (53). The highest seed yield was recorded from T7 (1879 kg ha-1) which was statistically similar to T6 and T10 and the lowest seed yield (1015 kg ha-1) in control. From the economic analysis, it was found that the highest gross return (TK. 169110 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk. 136010 ha-1) were obtained from T7. The lowest gross return (Tk. 91350 ha-1) and gross margin (Tk. 69350 ha-1). But the highest BCR (5.11) was obtained from T7.and the lowest BCR (3.51) were obtained from T2
