The experiment was conducted during six consecutive years of 1998-2004 at six locations of Bangladesh to estimate nutrient level through functional analysis for the cropping pattern of Mustard-Born rice-T. aman rice. Relationship of yield with N. P, K and S for 'mustard, born rice and T. aman rice in the cropping pattern showed quadric polynomial functions with different coefficient of determination. Response of seed yield of mustard to N (R2=0.68 at p=0.05) was found more favourable as compared to 1', K and S (R2=0.52-0.56 at p=0.05). Functional relationship of grain yield of barn rice with N. P, K and S was found significant (R2=0.54-0,79 at p=0.05-0,01), Further, functional relationship of grain yield of T. aman with N, P and S was observed significant (R2=0.52-0_80 at p=0_05-0,01). Optimum nutrient levels for mustard (123-22-49-26 kg had' of N-P-K-S), or rice (145-26-91-21 kg hir I of N-P-K-S) and T. aman rice (136-19- 72-15 kg ha-I of N-P-K-S) were determined by using the developed functions. Again, economic nutrient levels for mustard (118-16-46-25 kg ha-1 of N-P-K-S), bore rice (140-25-84-21 kg ha-I of N-P-K-S) and T. aman rice (131-18-65- 15 kg he of N-P-K-S) were also estimated by using the developed functions. Yield of crops in Mustard-Born rice -T. aman rice cropping pattern can also be predicted against assumed nutrient levels by using the functional relationship.

Long term experimental data of Mustard-Born rice-T. arnan rice cropping pattern at different locations would be subjected to develop functional relationship between yield and applied nutrient level. Hence, the study was aimed at estimating out in level through functional analysis for sustainable productivity of Mustard-Bore rice -T. aman rice cropping pattern.

The experiment was conducted during six consecutive years of 1998-2004 at six locations namely, Gabtali of Bogra; Palima of Tangail; Narikeli and Melandah of Jamalpur; Muktagacha of Mymensingh, and Bagharpara of Jessore in Bangladesh to estimate nutrient level through functional analysis for the cropping pattern of Mustard-Boro rice-T.aman rice. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with six replications at each location. The pattern was tested under four nutrient levels individually of N (N1, N2, N3 and N4), P (P,, P2, P3 and P4), K (K,, K2, K3 and K4) and S (SI, S2, S3 and S4). The subscript values of 1, 2, 3 and 4 with N, P, K and S indicate nutrient levels likely control (1), moderate yield goal (MYG)(2), high yield goal (HYG)(3) and HYG x1.33 (4), respectively. The nutrient levels were determined on the basis of soil test values and target yields of the crops in the pattern (BARC 1997). Four nutrient levels of N, P, K and S were selected with same class interval for each crop (Table 1). The crop cv. Tori 7, BRRI dhan 29 and BRRI dhan 11 were used for mustard, boro and T. aman rice respectively. Intercultural operation like weeding, irrigation and pest control were done properly. The yield data of six years from six locations were subjected to statistical analysis and attempted to establish functional relationship between yield and nutrient level through regression analysis after Panye et al. (2001). The relationship would be quadratic polynomial functions generally stated as bellow:

Y=a+bx-cx2, where Y= Yield of crop (dependent variable), a=Intercept (constant) and b and c are the regression coefficient, x= applied nutrient level (independent variable). From the function, the optimum and economic nutrient levels for crops can be determined as follows (Gomez and Gomez, 1984):

Developed functions can be used for the determination of optimum and economic levels of N, P, K, and S in the Mustard-Boro rice-T.aman rice cropping pattern. The functions also can predict the yield of crops in Mustard-Boro rice-T. Aman rice cropping pattern against assumed nutrient levels. It can also be used for the validation of yields of Mustard- Boro rice-T. Aman rice under nutrient management.
