There is no information about the types and severity of the risk factors, extent of devastation and the suggestion to overcome the situation. So it is utmost important to collect information about the risk factors faced by the Sundarbans professionals and hence this study has been formulated with the following objectives: 1. to analyze the selected characteristics of the Sundarbans professionals. 2. to find out level of tendency of going to Sundarbans. 3. to identify different risks and their severity faced by the Sundarbans professionals. 4. to determine the level of losses by the risk factors. 5. to find out job opportunities of Sundarbans professionals in their localities.

The study was conducted during March to April 2009 at Nishanbaria and Jiodhara unions of Morelganj Upazila of Bagerhat district. The area has a great significant role regarding the effect of terrorism, tiger, crocodile, sickness, disaster on Sundarbans professional. The list of respondents was collected by the help of the field level staff of the Prodipan. All the respondents (120) were considered as the population of the study. Out of the total respondents, 100 persons were selected randomly as the sample respondents. The sample respondents were selected taking proportionately from each of the selected villages. An interview schedule was prepared in Bangla for data collection keeping the objectives of the study in view. The schedule was pre-tested before final collection of data. After the pre-test necessary corrections, additions, alterations and rearrangement were made. The personal and socio-economic characteristics of the respondents were included in this study. The characteristics were age, profession, educational qualification, family size, land size, annual income, annual income from Sundarbans, extension media contact, , organizational participation, training exposure and cosmopoliteness.

At the beginning of the data processing all the qualitative data was converted into quantitative form by means of suitable code and score whenever necessary. Local units were converted into standard units. In several instances, indices and scales were constructed through the simple accumulation of score assigned to individual or pattern of attributes. Indices and scales were considered the efficient instruments for data reduction and analysis. All personal traits was categorized and arranged in simple tables for interpretation and discussion. Number, frequency and percentage were used as descriptive statistics. Statistical treatments like number, frequency, percent, mean, standard deviation etc. were made for interpretation of results.
