The experimental sites were located on Red Terrace soil at farmers' field on a medium high land in Madhupur (AEZ-28, Madhupur Tract) and at Bangladesh agricultural University (BAU) farm (AEZ-9, Old Brahmaputra Floodplain). The texture of the soil at Madhupur farmers' field was loam having sand, silt and clay contents of 39, 48 and 13 percent respectively. The pH of the soil was 5.2 (H20). The organic matter content was 1.23%, total N 0.07%, CEC 6.4 cmol kg-1, available P 4.07 mg kg-1, exchangeable K 0.86 cmol kg-1, available S 2.0 mg kg-1, while extractable (DTPA) Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn were 1.05, 100, 98.6 and 1.07 mg kg-1 respectively. At Bangladesh Agricultural University farm, the soil was silt loam in texture. The pH of the soil was 6.7 (H20). The soil was characterized by organic matter content 2.56%, total N 0.16%, CEC 11.2 cmol kg-1, available P 10.3 mg kg-1, exchangeable K 0.14 cmol kg-1, available S 8.0 mg kg-1 and extractable Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn were 5.18, 260, 43.8 and 5.6 mg kg-1 respectively.
The treatments included in both the experiments were T1. Control (-N), T2. Urea broadcast (52 kg N ha-1), T3. Urea broadcast (78 kg N ha-1), T4. Urea-Nimin broadcast (52 kg N ha4), T5. USG point placed (52 kg N ha-1), T6. USG-Nimin point placed (52 kg N ha-1) and T7. Urea-Nimin super granule point placed (52 kg N ha-1). In treatment 4, granulated urea was 'coated With Nimin. Treatment 6 _ consists of USG (urea super granule) coated with Nimin after briquetting of urea, while in Treatment 7, urea was coated with Nimin, followed by briquetting. The experiments in both the sites were carried out in completely randomized block design with 4 replications of each treatment. The test crop used in the experiment at Madhupur was BRRI dhan 11, while at BAU farm, it was BRRI dhan 30. Urea super granules were placed at a depth of 7 cm in between four hills of rice plants. It was done only once during the life -cycle of the crop. In broadcast urea application, urea was applied in three equal splits, at the time of final land preparation along with basal application of standard rates of P, K, S and Zn, one month after transplanting and at panicle initiation stage of the crop.
