Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at five locations in the farmer^’s field during Rabi 2015-16 to find out desirable lines through farmer participation. The genotype BLX-01013-1 was earlier compared to others. Considering pod/plant and 100seed weight the entries BLX-06004-2, and BLX-06004-12 were found better. GGE biplot analysis revealed that the genotypes BLX-06004-12 showed stable performances over the tested locations

Objectives:

Participatory Varietal Selection is a method of selection where the farmers get a chance to select the best materials for cultivation in their own field

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in the farmer^’s field at Pabna, Joydepur, Barisal, Jamalpur, and Jessore region during Rabi 2015-16. The five lentil genotypes viz. BLX-01013-1BLX-06004-2, BLX-06004-12, BARI Masur 6, and BARI Masur 7 were included in the study. Seeds were sown in unit plot of 2.4m x 4m with row spacing of 30 cm. Seeds were sown in the field from 16 to 21 November 2015. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. Weeding, irrigation, and other intercultural operations were done when necessary. Mulching was done and crusts were broken. Weeding was done to keep the plots free from weeds. Each of the entries was investigated from seedling to harvest and compared with checks. Grain yield was calculated from the whole plot. Yield contributing characters were taken from the 10 randomly selected plants from the middle rows of each plot. Data were analyzed statistically by using MS Excel and R-program.

Achievement/Findings:

Different genotypes of lentil showed significant variation among all the parameters except days to maturity and 100 seed weight for Barisal for days to maturity among the locations BLX 01013-1 was earlier at Jydebpur and Barisal. The genotype BLX-01013-1 was found earlier considering the mean values of five locations. Mean values of five locations revealed that the highest number of pods was produced by, and BLX-06004-12 followed by BLX-06004--2. In the case of 100 seed weight highest seed weight was recorded from BARI Masur 7 followed by BLX-06004-2. In GGE biplot the principal components are derived from subjecting environment-centered yield data (the yield variation due to GGE) to singular value decomposition. Then the pattern of genotypic response across environments can be graphically determined in a GGE biplot. The performance of the lentil genotypes is presented in the biplot based on grain yield data. The yield of each cultivar in a tested environment is a result of the genotypic main effect (G), environmental main effect (E), and genotype × environment (GE) interaction. In this experiment, the first two PCs of the GGE model explained 96.8% of the variation in G+GE. Five genotypes represent a polygon and the genotypes corner of the polygon most responsive genotypes. Among the tested location, Gazipur and Barisal had larger environmental vectors indicating the high discriminating ability of the genotypes. Polygon shows that the genotypes BLX-06004-2, BLX01013-1BLX-06004-12, and BARI masur7 are the most responsive genotypes. Considering yield and reaction to disease GGEbiplot analysis revealed that BLX-06004-12 was the stable genotype over the five locations
