A significant difference was observed in yield and yield-related traits in two different sowing dates. The first sowing (07 Nov.) produced higher yields compared to the late sowing on 26th November. Considering sowing dates highest yield was found in BARI Masur-8 and LRIL 22-205 in both sowing dates, followed by BLX06004-2. Apart from these the early lines LRIL 22-133 and LRIL 22-70 showed better yield at late sown condition. The rest of the variety/genotypes had no remarkable yield difference between the two dates of sowing.

The study was undertaken to identify genotypes/variety having high yield potential in late sown under terminal heat stress conditions.

Eighteen genotypes including five early lentil lines and eight lentil varieties were evaluated at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna, Bangladesh during rabi 2015-16. The genotypes were sown on two dates, viz., November 07 (optimum sowing time) and November 26 (late sowing) in an RCB design with 3 replications. Each entry was sown in a plot of 4 rows x 4 m long plot with a line to line spacing of 40 cm. Recommended fertilizers were used at the rate of 20-40-20-10 kg/ha (NPKS) from the source of Urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum, and boric acid respectively during final land preparation. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Necessary intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The yield data were recorded from the whole plot while the yield contributing traits were recorded from five randomly selected plants. Disease scoring scale (0-5) used for rating of Stemphylium blight as 0 = No infection, 1 = Few scattered leaf infections but no twig blighted, 2 = 5–10% leaflet infection and/or few scattered 1% twigs blighted, 3 = 11–20% leaflet infection and/or 1–5 % twigs blighted, 4 = 21– 50% leaflet infection and/or 6–10 % twigs blighted and 5 = 51% leaflet infection and/or = 10% twigs blighted developed by Bakr and Ahmed (1992). The statistical analysis was done using MSTATC computer software.

The effect of two dates of sowing (07 November and 26 November) on yield and yield contributing traits are recorded. A significant difference in yield and yield contributing characters was found in two dates of sowing except for plant height. For yield-related traits, most of the entries showed better performances in 2nd sowing. The highest mean seed yield was found in LRIL 22-205 followed by BARI Masur-8. LRIL 22-205 and BARI Masur-8 produced significantly higher yield in 2nd sowing (26th November) though the population of 2nd sowing was a bit more compare to 1st sowing. Similarly, the variety BARI Lentil-4 produced a higher yield in 2nd sowing even with less population than 1st sowing. Among the tested early genotypes, the early lentil lines produced a higher yield on the 2nd date of sowing compared to 1st date of sowing. Among them, LRIL 22-133, LRIL 21-109 and LRIL 22-70 were found better in respect of yield. So, these lines can be easily grown under late sown conditions but their yield is not good enough compared to the long-duration genotypes. So, the seed rate and row distance of these lines should be readjusted. The rest of the variety/genotypes has no remarkable yield difference among the two dates of sowing. In respect of other characters, all the entries 4-6 days earlier for days to flowering and 6-15 days for maturity in the second date of sowing. The mean 100 seed weight was highest in BLX 05008-15 followed by LR 22-205. However, BARI Masur-5 produced the highest mean number of pods per plant followed by BARI Masur-8 (Table 16). Again, BARI Masur-8 was found resistant to stemphylium blight. Among the entries, BARI Masur-8 was the tallest one and BLX 05008-15 was the most dwarf genotype. From this evaluation, it may be concluded that BARI Masur-8, LRIL 22-205, BLX06004-2, BARI Masur-3, and BARI Lentil 5 are suitable for late sowing after harvesting of Aman rice. The early lines of LRIL 22-133 and LRIL 22-70 can be suggested for a late planting after adjusting the population with less spacing
