Participatory Variety Selection of Pea (long Duration Type) (2015--2016)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at four locations in the farmer^’s field during Rabi 2015-16 to find out desirable lines through farmer participation. The genotype BD4223 was earlier compared to others. Considering pod/plant genotypes BD7211 and BD4209 and 100 seed weight the entries BD4209 were found better. GGE biplot analysis revealed that the genotypes BD4209, BD7211, and BD4223 showed stable performances over the tested locations.

Objectives:

The present study was undertaken to find out the short duration and/or long-duration lines with economically important traits for releasing as a variety in the rice-based cropping system.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at OFRD, Pabna; RARS, Jessore, OFRD, Faridpur and Natore during rabi 2015-16 with six genotypes of pea to identify high yielding genotypes. The genotypes were Natore local 2, BD-7211, BD-4223, BD-4209, BD-9052, and BARI Field pea 1. The experiment was laid down in an RCB design with three replications. Plot size was 6 rows x 4m length with a line to line spacing of 38 cm and plant to plant 7 cm. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Data was recorded on quantitative traits from five randomly selected plants The statistical analysis was done using MS Excel and R programs.

Achievement/Findings:

Among the 6 genotypes, BD-7211 was found earlier compare to others. In the case of the number of pods per plant, the highest number of pods was found in BD-7211 & BD-4209 which was flowed by BARI Fieldpea-1 and Natore local. Considering the location no. of pods/plant was sharply different among the Pabna, Faridpur, and Jessore. The highest no. of pods (43) was obtained at Jessore locations in genotypes BD-42099 followed by BD-7211 and BARI Fieldpea-1. 100 seed weight (g) differed significantly among the location within genotypes. Genotypic mean data for 100 seed weight over the location showed that BD-4209 was the best one which was followed by BD-4223. GGE biplot is exploited for the graphical display of the G×E pattern of yield trial data. GGE biplot methodology allows visual examination of GE interaction patterns of multi-environmental data. GGE biplot technique separates two principal components, PC1 and PC2, which are also referred to as primary and secondary effects, respectively. The principal components are derived from subjecting environment-centered yield data (the yield variation due to GGE) to singular value decomposition. The first two PCs of the GGE model explained 85.4% of the variation in G+GE. In GG biplot (Fig. 3) 6 genotypes represent a polygon and among the 6 genotypes BD-4209, BD-4223 and BD-7211 were the most responsive genotypes and the genotypes have high discriminating ability among the location. Considering location and genotype BD-4209 was most suitable for Jessore and Natore location for cultivation. Among the 6 genotypes, Natore local-2 was found to be near to origin i.e. less responsive to the environment
