Screening of Mungbean Lines Resistant to Mymv and Cls (2015--2016)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Regional Pulses Research Station (RPRS), Madaripur during Kharif1, 2016 to evaluate the performance of mungbean genotypes for searching for high yielding and resistant source of Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) and Cercospora Leaf Spot (CLS) of mungbean. Twenty mungbean lines with a check BARI Mung-3 were evaluated in the trial. Results revealed that BD-6926 and BD-6941 gave the lowest MYMV score (2.33) where the line BD-6928 and BARI Mung-3 gave the highest MYMV score (7.33). All the germplasm showed a resistant CLS score. The highest yield (1698 kg/ha) was obtained in BD-8887 followed by (1659 kg/ha) in BD-6926 and the lowest yield (1063 kg/ha) was found in the line BARI Mung-3.

Objectives:

To find out suitable mungbean lines which are more tolerant to MYMV and CLS having the high yielding capacity and to use resistant host is most important to find out a useful way of management of this disease.

Methodology:

The field trial was conducted at Regional Pulse Research Station (RPRS), BARI, Madaripur during Kharif-1 2016 under irrigated conditions. Twenty genotypes/lines viz. BD-6908, BD-6910, BD-6911, BD-6912, BD-6913, BD-6914, BD-6915, BD-6918, BD-6920, BD-6922, BD-6923, BD-6924, BD6925, BD-6926, BD-6927, BD-6928, BD-6936, BD-6941, BD-6943, BD-8887, and one check variety BARI Mung-3 were evaluated in the trial. The genotypes were collected from PGRC, BARI, Gazipur. An MYMV susceptible check, BARI Mung-3 was used in the experiment. The experiment was laid out in Lattice design. The spacing was 40 cm X 05 cm. Seeds were sown on March 02, 2016. Two weeding were done to keep the crop weed-free up to first picking. MYMV data were taken on a 0-8 scoring scale (Malik, I. A. 1992) Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot and seed yield (kg/ha) were recorded from the whole plot and analyzed statistically through MSTAT-C.

Achievement/Findings:

The best (2.33) MYMV score obtained in BD-6926 and BD-6941poorest (7.33) score was found in the line BD-6927. CLS score varied from 2.66-3.66 which verified the tested materials were resistant to highly resistant. Yield and yield attributes of the germplasms were presented in Table 21. Experimental results revealed that all the yield components were statistically significant. Days to flower varied from 30-40. The maximum days to flower were observed in BD-6928 (40) and minimum in BD-6925 (30). Days to maturity was varied from 55-61. The maximum days (61) to maturity was found in the line BD-6911, BD-6915, BD-6922, BD-6923, BD-6924, BD-6926 and BD-6927 and the minimum (55) in BD-6908, BD-6910, BD-6912, BD-6936 and BD-6943. The highest plant height (70.93 cm) was recorded in the line BD-6923 and the lowest (32.33 cm) was in BARI Mung-3. The maximum number of pods/plant (30.00) were produced by BD-6928 and BD-6941 and minimum (17.33) by BARI Mung-3. Pod length varied from 6.16-8.60 cm. The highest pod length was found in BD-6936 (8.60 cm) and lowest in BD-6913 (6.16). The highest (11.00) number of seeds/pod was found in BD-6922 and the lowest (7.66) was in BD6923. The maximum 100 seed weight (g) was observed in BD-6914 (5.10) and the lowest (3.60 g) in BD6922. Among the entries, BD-8887 gave the highest yield (1698 kg/ha) and the lowest was in BARI Mung-3 (1063 kg/ha).
