Development of Rabbit Production Under Intensive System in Rural Condition.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Abstract: A total of 100 Rabbits have been distributed in 5 location of the country; F1 (Dhaka-Pollobi), F2 (Savar-Parbotinagar), F3 (Magura-Boralidhaho), F4 (Magura0Pannandualli), F5 (Magura-Radhanagar) to know the production response and cost efficacy under intensive rearing system in rural area. The rabbits were reared in the two own arrangement of the farmer. Age at sexual maturity, age at first kidding, percentage of does kidded, gestation period, litter size, weaning period, breeding ratio did not differed significantly (p<0.05) among the locations. Feed cost was Tk. 732, Tk. 772, Tk.= 1221.96, and Tk. 976 for F1, F2, F3, F4, and F5 respectively. Monthly consumption of rabbit meat per family of 4.5kg, 3kg, 2.4kg, 6.0kg, in F1, F2, F3, and F5 respectively. Kid mortality (o-10 days) was significantly different (p<0.01) among the locations and this value was recorded in F1 (8.47%), F2 (11.11%), F3 (12.00%), F4 (8.82%), and F5(13.11%). Farmer earned Tk. 10200, 7600, 8400, 12400 and 7200 per batch by selling their rabbit and earned a profit of Tk. 49564, 39316, 38536, 62336 and 3568 per year in F1, F2, F3, F4, and F5 respectively. Rabbit production could be an important micro-livestock component to produce more meat to meet up nutritional demand of the country.

Objectives:

To know the production response and cost effectiveness under intensive systemized in rural condition.

Methodology:

Rabbit have been distributed at farmer’s levels in 5 location ofBangladesh F1 (Dhaka - Pollobi), F2 (Savar - Parbotinagar), F3 (Magura - Boralidhaho), F4 (Magura - Pannandualli), F5 (Magura - Radhanagar) and provede 20 rabbits to each farmers. Eighty does and 20 bucks were randomly assigned to five groups so that groups consisted of sixteen does and four buck. The rabbits were reared in their own arrangement. Record of productive and reproductive parameters (kid to adult) of rabbit under intensive in rural condition are kept during study. The animal were fed on diets containing average 2877 ME kcal/kg and 17.86% CP with adilbitum with green grass and water. The data were analyzed statistically in CRD.

Achievement/Findings:

From the present findings it may be concluded that the performance of rabbit under intensive in rural condition was good. Therefore, rabbit production could be an important micro-livestock component to produce for meeting up extra demand of the country. However, rabbit could be an important tool for income generation and poverty reduction in the rural agriculture of Bangladesh.
