Sheep in one of the most important in animals Agriculture, which provide meat and wool. Since, 2002, the Bangladesh Livestock Institute is working on the improvement of Bengal sheep through selective breeding. Keeping above scientific rationale and technical ground in mind the present study was undertaken with the views to determine the milk yield and wool production of different types of native sheep in Bangladesh. Animals (Barind area, Jamuna basin area and Coastal areas) were allowed to graze for 7-8 hours. Concentrate (17% CP, 11 MJ/kg DM) was offered twice during morning and evening at the rate of 200 g per head per day. At the onset of the experiment milk yield of the lactating ewes were recorded by taking weights of lamb. Data on milk yield and wool production were kept regularly. The milk yield were 290.0, 281.o, and 290.5 (ml/d) for the first month; 239.5, 240.75 and 267.75 (ml/d) for the second month; and 159.o, 168.5 and 179.5 (ml/d) for the third months respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there was no significant different among the area, but it was observed that the sheep in coastal area produced higher amount of milk than those of Jamuna and Barind areas. The sheep was in Barind area produced lower yield of milk. The wool productions were 315.38, 440.0 and 363.63 gm/cutting, in Jamuna, Barind and Coastal areas respectively. The significantly (p>0.05) highest wool production was observed in Barind areas (440.0±14.10 gm) and lowest was in Jamuna areas (315.38±8.84 gm). Production of wool in male was significantly higher than the female and the season was also significantly (p>0.05) affected on wool yield. The wool yield in male summer was 398.03±37.79 gm and winter was 388.85±17.5 gm and female summer was 346.38±27.98 gm and winter was 353.70±25.73 gm respectively. From the above observation it may be concluded that the milk yield of native sheep was highest in coastal area followed by Jamuna and Barind area. On the other hand, wool production per cutting was highest in Barind area than that of the Coastal and Jamuna area. Sex was also significantly affected on wool production.

Animals were maintained in a semi - intensive rearing conditions. All the ewes and ram were housed in slatted floor permanent house. Rams were always kept separately from the ewes to avoid unplanned mating. Animals were allowed to graze for 6-7 hours. Concentrate (17% CP, 11 MJ/kg DM) was offered twice during morning and evening at the rate of 200 g per head per day. At the onset of the experiment milk yield of the lactating ewes were recorded by taking weights of lamb. Lambs were separated from their ewes in the night (8 pm) to morning (6 am). In the morning lambs were weighted by weighing balance and allowed to suckle. After complete sucking, lambs were weighted again. After weight was deducted from before weight and milk production was find out. During the environmental period, milk yield of the lactating ewes were recorded daily and continued throughout the lactation period. The sheep were washed and dried prior to shearing. Wool was sheared tow season (summer and winter) of the year and yield was measured by digital platform balance. After clipping the wool was sorted, graded and cleaned. Staple length was measured by measuring scale. The wool fibers were visually observed and counted with the help of a projection microscope at 500-power magnification. Necessary treatments were given against specific diseases according to the suggestion of Veterinarian. Treatments were also provided regularly against internal and external parasites. All animals were deeper in 0.05% malathion solution in one month interval. Data were complied, tabulated and analyzed in accordance with the objectives of the study. The data were subjected to statistical analysis using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS, version 11.5) compute package program. For mean comparison, Least Significant Difference (LSD) test were performed for comparison.

From the above observation it may be concluded that the milk yield of native sheep was highest in coastal area followed by Jamuna and Barind area. On the other hand, wool production per cutting was highest in Barind area than that of the Coastal and Jamuna area. Sex and season was also significantly affected on wool production where male and winter season were significantly higher than the female and summer season. But the quality of wool was better in Coastal sheep followed by Jamuna and Barind areas sheep respectively.
