Performance Evaluation of Versatile Multi-crop Planter

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The field performance and economic analysis of Versatile Multi-Crop Planter (VMP) was evaluated for seedling of different crops including rice under various tillage conditions. Seeding and fertilizer application in lines simultaneously could be done by the VMP. The VMP saved up to 12.59-82.36% fuel; 50-68% labour cost for land preparation and 12.68-75.24% labour cost for seeding and fertilizer application. The speed ratio of main shaft and rotor shaft was 1.33.

Objectives:

To test the seed metering device of VMP To compare the fuel consumption, cost of land preparation and seeding of VMP under different tillage options

Methodology:

Versatile Multi-crop Planter (VMP) had the provision to use adjustable row spacing of crops for zero tillage, strip tillage, minimum tillage, bed planting, and even conventional tillage operation; seeding and fertilizer application occur simultaneously in a single pass operation. Both Dongfeng or Sifeng model 2-WT have a suitable hitching point to attach the VMP. Main features 1. Multi-tillage options The VMP could be operated with following mode of tillage by changing the blade arrangement. 1) Conventional tillage (CT) 2) Single-pass shallow-tillage (SPST) 3) Strip tillage (ST) 4) Zero tillage (ZT) 5) Bed planting (BP) 2. Multi-crop seeding options Rice, lentil, chickpea, wheat, blackgram, mungbean, maize and even small seed like jute, mustard can be seeded successfully by this seeder. 3. Fertilizer application options Two types of seed metering options i) Vertical seed metering device for hill dropping ii) Flute type of seeding metering device of continuous seed dispensing

Achievement/Findings:

The VMP was tested for seeding pulse in the high barind tract, Godagari, Rajshahi. The result indicated that VMP can be operated in multi-tillage mode i.e. CT, SPST, ST, ZT and BP with the same machine by changing tyne re-arrangement. Single tool is enough to mantle and dismantle most of the parts. Pulse could be safely dispensed by this machine. Further test was needed to evaluate the parts failure frequency of this machine.
