PTO seeder was evaluated with conventional tillage practice during Aus 2010-2011 season at Toke, Kapasia. There were three treatments, viz. T1: Full tilth DSR, T2: Strip DSR seeding: and T3: Farmer’s or conventional practice. The field capacity of the PTO seeder was found to be 0.155 ha/hr. The yields were found to be 3.41, 3.2 and 2.7 ton/ha for T1, T2 and T3 treatments respectively.

To evaluate the conservation of tillage system with conventional practice

Power tiller operated seeder (PTOS) could be used for multipurpose tilling, seeding in line, covering the seed and land leveling in a signal pass. The experiment was conducted to establish DSR with PTOS in Aus season 2010-11 at farmer’s field, Toke, Kapasia using BRRI dhan48. Three crop establishment options viz. T1= Strip (DSR) seeding, T2= Full tilth DSR seeding and T3= Farmer’s practice was evaluated. Round-up, a non selective herbicide was applied before 5 days of direct seeding in the PTOS plots. 48 tynes were used in full tilth DSR, while 24 tynes were used strip tillage DSR. BRRI recommended fertilizers doses were applied before seeding operation. In DSR plot, urea was applied in 20 DAS, 40 DAS, 60 DAS and booting stage. Seeding performance, area coverage per unit time, plant establishment, fuel consumption and crop yield were recorded.

Power tiller operated seeder (PTOS) maintained uniform depth of seeding, proper seed distribution and better seed covering which enhance better plant establishment. The field capacity of the PTOS was 0.155 ha/hr. Crop yield was higher both in T1 and T2 treatments compared with conventional practice, T3. No crack formation was observed in the DSR plots.
