Design and Development of Manually Operated Fertilizer (usg/umg) Applicator

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

BRRI USG applicator was modified considering line to line and plant to plant spacing of 18 x 20 cm, 20 x 20 cm and 22 x 20 cm and fabricated in the FMPHT divisional research workshop for double rows operation in rice field. Modified applicator was evaluated in laboratory and field condition and compared with fixed type applicator. Dispensing efficiency was found 99% in laboratory condition. The field capacity of the modified applicator was 35 decimal/hr whereas field capacity of the fixed type applicator was 36 decimal/hr. This might be loss of time during adjustment. Farmers could use anyone of the fixed and adjustable type applicator.

Objectives:

1. To modify the BRRI USG Applicator (fixed model) considering the different line spacing of the transplanted rice

2. To observe the performance of developed BRRI USG applicator

3. To identify the problems of field operation for improvement

Methodology:

For development: • MS sheet, flat bar, angle bar, shaft bar, GI pipe, Nuts and Bolts and Granular urea • Design the applicator using AutoCAD Program and a Prototype was fabricated in the FMPHT divisional research workshop. Design considerations of the applicator The design of the applicator was modified using AutoCAD engineering tools as per following design considerations. • Line to line and plant to plant spacing should be 18 x 20, 20 x 20 and 22 x 20 cm • Depth of placing should be 6-8cm Performance test of the applicator The fabricated applicator was tested using urea mega granules (2.7 gm) theoretically and practically in the research workshop and BRRI research field to evaluate the machine primarily. During test, the following data were collected: • USG/UMG dispensing efficiency (%) • Distance of the dispensed granules (cm) • Depth of placement (cm) • Walking speed (km/h) • Field capacity (ha/h)
