Development of a Power Tiller Operated Field Leveler

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A comparative study was conducted with rotary plough and leveler (Bamboo and Wooden) in terms of fuel consumption and field capacity in the muddy soil of West Byde, BRRI. Test result showed that both the wooden (6 feet x 0.92 feet) and bamboo (6.67 feet x 1.33 feet) made leveler performed well in the muddy soil.

Objectives:

To design and develop a power tiller operated field leveler

Methodology:

To combat the depth of mud and shortage of draft animal, BRRI research team looked ahead to power tiller operated leveler for proper leveling of plots. With this aim in mind, a team of researchers of FMPHT and Farm Management Divisions studied the existing levelers drawn by bullocks/buffaloes in the farm. The sizes of the existing leveler were 11 feet - 1.41 feet and 12.16 feet - 1.5 feet for bullock and buffalo drawn leveler respectively. The levelers were made of hard Garjan wood and bamboo. Field tests were carried out at West byde, BRRI, Gazipur with rotary plough and power tiller drawn leveler. Following the last year results, two levelers one from garjan wood and other from bamboo were fabricated and size of the levelers were 6.0 feet - 0.92 feet and 6.67 feet - 1.33 feet respectively. The weight of wooden and bamboo levelers were 10 kg and 8 kg respectively. During field operation additional 10 kg weight was applied on the both levelers. The leveler was fixed to the rear of PT seat at a distance of 0.9 to 1.0 m by rope.

Achievement/Findings:

Both wooden and bamboo made leveler of size 6.0 ft - 0.92ft and 6.67ft - 1.33ft respectively were suitable for leveling operation with power tiller in heavy clay wet soil.
