Variety and Species
To collect, evaluate and conserve chilli germplasm for futre use and selection of superior lines.
This year we have explored Faridpur district. However, the collector’s team was equipped with cameras, hand lens, seed, knife, scissors, pencil, stapler etc. Necessary information was recorded on the passport data sheet. The sample was collected as seeds and fruit, individual plant or population. Sites for collecting the germplasm in target area were selected considering the nature of crop, availability of germplasm and communication.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
A total of 5 (five) germplasms namely Zia morich, Bindu, Sudana, Alamdanga and Tekerhat were collected from Faridpur districts. As the collected materials were small in amount and genetically heterogenous, characterization was not undertaken in this year. Only multiplication and selfing was done. Evaluation and characterization will be done in the next year.
Diverse germplasm are the building block of breeding a new variety but unfortunately we are loosing our valuable genetic resources day by day. So more effort and emphasis should be given to collect and conserve our plant genetic diversity.
