The field experiment was conducted at regional Spices Research Centre, Joybedpur, Gazipur during 2011-2012 with 5S0 chilli lines vz. BARI Morich-1, CO611, CO446, CO525 and CO613 were advanced to S1 generation in order to develop variable chilli inbred lines for hybrid varieties. Variations were found among the lines for the characters studied. Best individuals from every line were selected and selfed. S1 seeds were stored for advancing S2 generation in the next year.

To make available diversified genotypes for hybridization in chilli
The field experiment was conducted at regional Spices Research Centre, Joybedpur, Gazipur during 2011-2012 with 5S0 chilli lines vz. BARI Morich-1, CO611, CO446, CO525 and CO613. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with two replications. The unit plot size was 3m x 1m. The spacing used between rows and plants was 60cm x 50cm. The land was fertilized with cowdung 5t/ha and N100P55K100S20Zn2B1kg/ha. Irrigation and necessary intercultural operations were done as and when required. For controlling out crossing, a simple and effective plant isolation cage consists of white color nylon fabric draped on the frame constructed of iron piping was used. The data on selfed plant/genotype and self fruits/plant were collected from cage and other identical data were collected from other randomly selected plants.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
Data on yield and yield contributing characteristics of chilli lines are present in table 1(a),1(b) and 2 plant height, days to anthesis, days to 50% flowering, days to fruit setting, fruit size, fruit weight were varied significantly among the lines. The highest plant height (97.33cm) was obtained the line CO446 followed by CO611 (95cm) and CO525 (93.92cm), respectively. Among the lines the maximum period of 58.50 days was required to start anthesis in C0446 and the shortest period of 42 days was required in BARIMorich-1. Fruit setting and fruit bearing and weight of fruit were higher in CO446 line. Color is an important parameters of consumer preference, in fresh chilli consumers prefer green colored fruit and powder its must be red. The cultivars used in the experiments almost all the lines fruit color were fresh in green and ripen in red.
