The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogra during April, 2011 to February, 2012. Ten lines of turmeric were included in this trial. Both mother rhizome and finger were used as planting material. Different plant characters (above and underground) contributed yield, as influenced by different planting material. The dry matter (%) was recorded higher mostly in all lines except T013 and T0105 when grown from finger. T016 possessed highest dry matter 18% and 18.67 % when plants propagated from both mother rhizome and finger, respectively followed by T013 and T096 (17 %)grown from mother rhizome and T082,T093 (17.33%) grown from finger. Maximum disease incidence (%) was recorded in T016 (50.2) and T085 (52.08) when the plants were grown from finger.

To evaluate the performance of above and underground yield contributing characters of ten turmeric lines
The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogra during April, 2011 to February, 2012. Ten lines of turmeric were evaluated and characterized regarding aboveground and underground yield contributing characters of turmeric plants. No design was followed. Both mother rhizome and finger were planted for above study. The unit plot size was 4.0 m × 1.8m with plant spacing of 60cm × 25 cm. and planting was done on April 22, 2011. The land was fertilized with cowdung, N, P, K, S and Zn at the rate of 10t, 100, 36, 85, 20 and 2.0kg per hectare, respectively. The entire quantity of cowdung, P, S, Zn and half of K were applied as basal dose. Half of N was applied at 50 days after planting. Remaining N and K was applied as top dress in two equal splits at 80 and 120 days after planting. Weeding and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested on February 05, 2012 when all the plants started drying. Average data of different characters/ parameters of turmeric lines regarding mother rhizome and finger as seed were calculated.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
The dry matter (%) was recorded higher mostly in all lines except T013 and T0105 when grown from finger mother rhizome performed best as planting materialsthe plants of T084 when grown from fingers, produced maximum number of mother rhizome (3.8) and finger (16.2),heavier mother rhizome (372 gm) and fingers(360 gm).Similarly, T0105 produced mother rhizome (2.6) and finger (11.4) in number , mother rhizome (282 gm) and fingers(328 gm) by weight while finger was used as planting materials and it was maximum compared to mother rhizome used as seed
