Abstract/ Executive Summary:

One improved closed drum thresher was developed and tested in Farm Machinery Research Workshop and five self propelled reapers were tested in the BRRI farm. The threshing capacity of improved closed drum thresher was 800 kg paddy and 500 kg wheat per hour. The reapers were tested to verify the quality and functional problems. Physical dimensions were checked as per design specifications. Manufacturing faults were identified and informed the respective manufacturer to take necessary steps to rectify the faults.

Objectives:

Methodology:

Research workshop of BRRI had limited scope for large scale production of BRRI developed farm machinery. In the meantime, BRRI enlisted some potential manufacturers of farm machinery from different parts of the country. BRRI developed farm machinery was procured from the enlisted manufacturers through open tender. Five self propelled reapers were procured in the 2004-05 financial year. Field performances of the newly procured self propelled reapers were evaluated at BRRI farm during Aus 2004 and Boro 2005. Functional problem of these machines were identified; and respective manufacturers were informed about the faults of the machines.

Achievement/Findings:

A new thresher machine of the size in between TH-7 and TH-8 model was designed and fabricated in the FMPHT Research Workshop. Mechanical faults were rectified and tested. However, there were still some minor mechanical faults in the machine. Louvers angle of the threshing drum were re-fixed for smooth materials conveying. Materials conveying inside the threshing drum was improved and the problem of threshed paddy loss with straw was reduced.
