The trial was conducted at Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogra during rabi 2011-2012. Eight different black cumin lines were evaluated against recommended variety BARI Kalozira-1 for yield and yield contributing characters. The highest number of capsule/plant (40.03) was obtained from BO01 and the lowest (31.27) was found in BC05. The germplasm BC07 and BC06 gave the highest (2.13) and the lowest (1.77) 1000 seed weight respectively. In case of seed yield (1.3 3t/ha) was found BC07 which was the highest yield of others and the lowest was BC06 (0.74 t/ha) followed by BC05 (0.75 t/ha) and BC01(0.75 t/ha).

Variety and Species
To evaluate eight different lines of black cumin in term of its yield potential.
The trial was conducted on eight (8) black cumin lines at Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogra during rabi season of 2011-2012. The experiment was laid out in RCB Design with three replications. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2m. The spacing used between lines and plants was 25cm x 10cm. The land was fertilized with cowdung, urea, TSP and MP at the rate of 5 tons, 125, 95 and 75kg/ha, respectively. The entire quantity of cowdung, TSP and MP were applied during final land preparation. Urea was applied in two equal splits at 20 and 40 days after sowing. The seeds were sown on 2nd November 2011 and were harvested on 8th March 2012. Weeding, irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as necessary. Data recorded were on plant height, primary branch/plant, capsule/plant, seeds/capsule, 1000 seed weight and seed yield. The collected data were statistically analyzed and means were separated by DMRT.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
There were significant variations among the lines in respect of capsule/plant, seeds/capsule, 1000 seed wt and seed yield kg/ha (Table 1). The highest yield was obtained from the lines BC07 (1.33 t/ha) the lowest yield was found from the line BC06 (0.74/ha) followed by BC05(0.75 t/ha) and BC01(0.75 t/ha.
The above study reveals that the lines have substantial differences in yield as well as yield attributes. This implies that there are enough opportunity to select line(s) for advance study and selection of variety from the tested materials.
