The trial was conducted at the Spices Research Center, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogra during the rabi season of 2011-2012. Ten different cumin lines were evaluated in terms of yield and yield contributing characters. Among the lines CN-017 produce the highest yield (591.3 kg/h) followed by CN-023, CN-021 and CN-010 (574.3, 572.0, 564.3 kg/h respectively). The lowest yield was recoded (314.3 kg/h) from the lineCN-001.

To evaluate ten lines of cumin to find out some promising line(s).
The evaluation trial was conducted with 10 cumin lines at the Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogra during rabi season 2011-2012. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. The unit plot size was 3m x 1m. The spacing used 30cm x 10cm. The land was fertilized with cowdung, urea, TSP and MP at the rate of 5 tons, 150, 120 and 100kg/ha respectively. The entire quantity of cowdung, TSP and MP were applied during land preparation. Urea was applied in two equal splits at 20 and 40 days after germination. The seeds were sown on 10th November 2011 and harvested on 25th February 2012. Weeding, irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as when necessary. Data were recorded on plant height (cm), primary branch/plant, umbel/plant, umbel let/plant, seed/umbel, let/plant,1000 seed wt and seed yield kg/ha. The collected data were analyzed statistically and mean were separated by DMRT.

There were significant variations among the lines in respect of plant height, primary branch/plant, umbel/plant, seeds/plant,1000 seed wt and seed yield kg/ha (Table 1). The highest yield was obtained from CN017 line (591.3 kg/ha), followed by CN023, CN021 and CN010 (574.3, 572.0, 564.3 kg/h respectively). Among the ten lines the seed yield was in the order- CN001> CN020> CN04> CN018> CN03> CN019> CN010> CN021> CN023> CN017.CN-017 line showed the best performance among the ten lines. As it is a 3rd year study, it needs to be repeated further to identify the promising line(s).
