The trial was conducted at Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogra during rabi 2011-2012. Eight different fennel lines were evaluated in terms of their yield and yield contributing characters. Germplsm, FN-01 gave highest plant height (122.50 cm) and FN-07 gave highest number of branch/plant and umbel/plant (5.63 and 62.07 respectively). The highest 1000 seed weight was given in FN-06 (7.11 g) followed by FN-08 (6.97 g) FN-06 (7.11 g) FN-05 (6.85 g). In case of seed yield, FN-01 germplasm performed better (2.28 t/ha) and the lowest seed yield was recorded BC-05 (0.86 t/ha).

Variety and Species
To evaluate seven different lines of fennel in term of their yield potential.
The trial was conducted on seven fennel lines at Spices Research Centre, BARI, Shibgonj, Bogra during rabi 2011-2012. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2m. The spacing used between lines and plants was 50cm x 10cm. The land was fertilized with cowdung, urea, TSP and MP at the rate of 5 tons, 125, 95 and 75kg/ha, respectively. The entire quantity of cowdung, TSP and MP were applied during final land preparation. Urea was applied in two equal splits at 20 and 40 days after sowing. The seeds were sown on 4th November 2010 and were harvested on 13th April and 26th April 2012. Weeding, irrigation and other intercultural operations were done as per necessary. Data were recorded on plant height, primary branch/plant, umbel/plant, umbel let /plant, seeds/plant, seeds weight/plant, 1000 seed weight and seed yield. The collected data were a statistically analyzed and means were separated by DMRT.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
There were significant variations among the germplasm in respect of plant height, branch/plant, umbel/plant, 1000 seed weight and seed yield (Table 1). Germplsm, FN 01 recorded highest plant height (122.50 cm). The highest branch/plant and umbel /plant (5.63 and 62.07 respectively) were obtained from FN 07. The 1000 seed weight in better performing gerplasm FN 06 (7.11 g) followed by FN 08 (6.97 g) FN 06 (7.11 g) FN 05 (6.85 g). In case of seed yield, FN 01 germplasm performed best (2.28 t/ha) and the lowest (0.86 t/ha) was found from FN 05. The lines have substantial differences in yield and yield attributes. It indicates that there are enough opportunity to select line(s) for advance study and selection of variety from the tested materials.
