The experiment was conducted at the Spices Research Centre, Shibgonj, Bogra during kharif season, 2011 to find out proper method of planting and plant spacing for maximizing rhizome yield of ginger. Earthing up in Couple row ridge method facilitated broaden base with blunted apex ridge that resulted less soil erosion and inhibited exposition of rhizome and roots compared to pointed apex Single row ridge method (Recom. method). The highest gross return (Tk. 955350/ha), net return (Tk. 606159) and benefit-cost ratio (2.74) was also obtained from couple row ridge method.

Variety and Species
To study the effects of planting method and spacing on ginger.
The experiment was conducted at the Spices Research Centre, Shibgonj, Bogra during kharif season 2011. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Ten planting methods viz., Single row ridge method with 50cm x 25 cm spacing(recomm. method), Bed method with 50cm x 25 cm spacing, Bed method with 50cm x 20 cm spacing, Bed method with 40cm x 25 cm spacing, Bed method with 40cm x 20 cm spacing, Bed method with 30cm x 25 cm spacing, Bed method with 30cm x 20 cm spacing, Couple row with 50cm  25cm spacing, Couple row (triangular) with 50cm x 25cm spacing and Farmers’ method with 60cmx25cm spacing were compared. In case of Couple row, the planting geometry was made allowing 25cm apart from plants and consecutive Couple line, maintaining 50cm between two Couple rows. The unit plot size was 6m x 3m. The cv. BARI Ada-1 was used as test crop. To control Thrips, `Gain' @ 0.25ml/L of water was sprayed at 35 and 65 DAP. Similarly, to control leaf spot disease, the crop was sprayed with Tilt 250EC @ 0.5ml/L of water at 40, 60 and 70 DAP. The crop was harvested on 7 February 2012. Data on plant population (one month before harvest), plant height (at 7 months), number of tiller per plant (at 7 months), number of leaves per plant (at 7 months), weight of primary rhizome per plant, rhizome yield per plant and rhizome yield per hectare were recorded.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
Couple row ridge method was better for maximizing rhizome yield of ginger. The highest rhizome yield per plant was recorded from Farmers practice with 60cmx25cm spacing (237.0g) which was identical to Single row ridge method with 50cmx25cm spacing (229.3g), Couple row ridge method with 50cmx25cm spacing (227.7g), Bed method with 50cmx25cm spacing (225.7g), Couple row (triangular) ridge method with 50cmx25cm spacing (217.3g) and Bed method with 50cmx20cm spacing (216.0g)
