The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogra during April, 2011 to February, 2012. Six types of planting materials considering mother rhizome and primary finger as seeds were the treatments of the experiment. The treatments were viz., mother rhizome from mother rhizome, half mother rhizome from mother rhizome, primary finger from mother rhizome, mother rhizome from primary finger, half mother rhizome from primary finger and primary finger from primary finger. The seeds of BARI Halud-3 were planted on 02 May 2011.No design was followed. It revealed that primary finger of turmeric was found better sources of planting materials compared to mother rhizome of turmeric regarding plant height, number of leaves, weight of mother rhizome and finger and plot yield. The highest plot yield (5.1kg) was recorded in T4 (mother rhizome from primary finger) followed by 5.0 kg in T6 (primary finger from primary finger).

Variety and Species
1) To ascertain the effects of different rhizome types from mother rhizome and finger as planting material for turmeric seed production and
2) to determine the suitable planting materials as seed for quality turmeric production.
The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Bogra during April, 2011 to February, 2012. Six types of planting materials as seed considering mother rhizome and primary finger as seeds were the treatments of the experiment. The treatments were viz., T1= mother rhizome from mother rhizome, T2= half mother rhizome from mother rhizome, T3=primary finger from mother rhizome,T4= mother rhizome from primary finger,T5= half mother rhizome from primary finger and T6=primary finger from primary finger. In first year, different types of planting materials were collected and planted at the spacing 60 cm x 25 cm in 3.0  2.4 m of plot without replication. The seeds of BARI Halud-3 weighing 11.33-13.33 g were planted on 02 May 2011.No design was followed. The land was fertilized with cowdung, N, P, K, S and Zn at the rate of 10t, 100, 36, 85, 20 and 2.0 kg per hectare, respectively. The entire quantity of cowdung, P, S, Zn and half of K were applied as basal dose. Half of N was applied at 50 days after planting. Remaining N and K was applied as top dress in two equal splits at 80 and 120 days after planting. Weeding and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested on February 10, 2012 when all the plants started drying. Mean data on yield and yield contributing characters were calculated.
Spice Research Report 2011-12
The highest number of mother rhizome and finger was obtained from T2 and T5 (half cut mother rhizome) from both mother rhizome and primary finger. But the heavier mother rhizome (113, 106 and 89 gm) and fingers (270,266 and 217 gm) when mother rhizome from primary finger, half mother rhizome from primary finger and primary finger from primary finger were used as planting material. The highest plot yield (5.1kg) was recorded in T4 (mother rhizome from primary finger) followed by 5.0 kg in T6 (Primary finger from primary finger).
