Improvement of Preheating Hopper of Briquette Machine

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Temperature gain was only 55°C in preheat hopper. Briquette production rate was found to be 75.21 kg/hr to 103.89 kg/hr. The energy consumption rate was found to be 12.48 to 16.30 kWhr for 100 kg briquette production. The physical and mechanical properties of the briquette were found satisfactory.

Objectives:

• To improve the existing briquette briquette production system • To save the energy by incorporating a preheat hopper

Methodology:

The temperature of hot briquette remains about 250°C. There was a lot of heat content in newly produced hot briquette. To utilise this waste heat for preheating rice husk, a modified feed hopper had been developed by inserting the tube through the hopper to hold the hot briquette. Only seven number of tube had been inserted and the husk flows properly due to space limitation. The diameter of the tube was 7 cm. The breath, length of upper tube was higher and it tapered towards the lower part of the hopper. The length of upper 3 tubes was 85 cm each and for lower 4 tubes, they are 72 cm, 60 cm, 52 cm and 42 cm from top to bottom respectively. The total volume of hopper without tube is 0.3733 m3 and with tube inside is 0.3 m3 aprrox. and it holds 42 kg husk approx. The tubes hold 13 kg of hot briquette approx.

Achievement/Findings:

Temperature gain in the preheat hopper was obtained 55°C. Briquette production rate was found to be 75.21 kg/hr to 103.89 kg/hr. The energy consumption rate was found to be 12.48 to 16.30 kWhr for 100 kg briquette production. The average outside diameter, inside diameter and true density of briquette were found to be 5.75 cm, 2.12 cm and 1.25 g/cc, respectively.
