A field experiment was conducted at SRC, Bogra during rabi 2011-2012 to test the performance of onion germplasm against thrips. The highest number of thrips population (16.58 thrips/plant) was recorded on the last week of March in the onion line ONO-285 followed by ONO-279 and ONO-282 and then declined gradually. Significantly the lowest number of thrips population (12.50 thrips/plant) was observed in onion line ONO-251 followed by BARI Piaz-2 and ONO-250. Highest yield (24.07 t/ha) was obtained from the onion line ONO-286, where the number of thrips population was (14.84 thrips/plant).

Variety and Species
To evaluate the performance of fifteen onion lines and three varieties against Thrips tabaci.
The experiment was conducted at SRC, Bogra during the rabi season of 2011-2012. The seedlings were transplanted to the field on 19 December 2011.Fifteen lines along with three varieties were screened out against Thrips tabaci. The experimental design was RCB with three replications. The unit plot size was 3m×1.2m and spacing was 15cm×10cm. Each plot consisted of 8 lines with 30 plants. Thrips population was counted at 7 days interval from the first appearance of thrips infestation. Number of thrips (both adult and nymphs) was counted from 15 randomly selected plants of each plot. No insecticides were sprayed in the plot through out the season. All the agronomic practices were applied followed to raise the crops. Crop yield data were also recorded immediately after crop harvest. Data on thrips population were taken and analyzed using MSTAT program and mean values were separated by DMRT.
Spice Research Report 2011-12, Spice Research Centre, BARI, Shibganj, Bogra
The lower thrips infestation was observed in onion line ONO-251 followed by BARI Piaz-2 and ONO-250 but highest yield (24.07 t/ha) was obtained from the onion line ONO-286, where number of thrips population was (14.84 thrips/plant).
