The performances of BRRI lithao and Chinese Hand Tractor (CHT) operated seeder were evaluated in comparison with hand sowing method for the establishment of wheat. The field capacities of lithao, CHT seeder and hand sowing method were 0.03, 0.15 and 0.09 ha/hr respectively. Wheat establishment by CHT seeder saves about Tk 5000.00 per hectare compared to hand sowing method.

1. To identify suitable seeder for timely crop establishment and minimize cost of production. 2. To compare the costs of production.

Two seeding machines viz, BRRI Lithao and Chinese Hand Tractor (CHT) seeder were evaluated in comparison with hand broadcasting method of sowing during Rabi/2000 season with wheat seed at BRRI Regional station farm, Rajshahi. The design of the experiment was Randomized Complete Block (RCB) and the treatment of the experiment were as follows: T1 = Seeding by BRRI Lithao (120 kg/ha) T2= Seeding by CHTseeder (120 kg/ha) T3 = Hand broadcasting (120 kg/ha) T4= Hand broadcasting (150 kg/ha)

1. For wheat establishment the minimum tillage machine like CHT seeder could be adapted in Bangladesh as it bring a net earning of Tk 5000 per hectare compared to conventional method of wheat establishment. 2. The initial purchase cost of the CHT seeder could be reimbursed by only 5 to 6 hectares of operation. 3. BRRI Lithao is suitable for the stubble-free field.
