The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Shibganj, Bogra during rabi season (2012 -2013) with a view to develop new variety. Five onion varieties of onion viz. BARI Onion-1 & BARI Onion-4 (winter onion), BARI Onion-2,3 & 5 (summer onion) and one advance line (F3-6) were used in this study. Bulbs of above germplasm were planted in the field for seed production. At maturity stage seeds were harvested, processed and stored for next year study.

Variety and Species
For develop new variety with higher yield and good keeping quality.
The experiment was conducted at Spices Research Centre, Shibganj, Bogra during robi season (2012 -2013). Five onion varieties viz. BARI Onion-1 & BARI Onion-4 (winter onion), BARI Onion-2,3 & 5 (summer onion) and one advances line (F3-6) were used in this study. BARI Onion-1 & 4 has good keeping quality but low yield compare to summer onion. BARI Onion-2, 3 & 5 is high yielding variety but keeping quality very low than winter onion. The bulbs were planted on 15 November 2012 and harvested on 30 April 2013. Each variety/advance lines were planted in each line with three replications. The plot size was 18 m X 10 m having plant spacing of 25 cm x 20 cm. The whole plot was covered with mosquito net for ensure selfing. Honey bee ware used as a pollinator for pollination. The crop was fertilized with cow dung 10 t/ha, N115, P54, K75, S20, Zn3 and B2 Kg/ha. Weeding was done at 25, 50, 75 & 100 days after planting. Irrigation was applied at 20, 40, 60, 80 & 100 days after planting. Artificial pollination was also done by hand within the net. At maturity seeds were harvested, processed and stored. The recorded data were seed yield and germination percentage.

In the study, the seeds were harvested, processed and stored for further study. In coming winter season, seedling will be raised for F1 bulb production and selection will be made on the basis of shelf life, bulb size and colour. Mean performance of different six types harvested F1 seeds are given in Table-1. The highest amount of seed (145g) was collected from BARI Onion-5 and lowest from BARI Onion-2 (120g). The germination percentage of different varieties and lines varied from 70-83%.
