The experiment was conducted at CRS, Jaintiapur in Rabi season from November 2012 to May 201 to select the promising germplasm of Naga chilli for releasing a variety having higher yield with better quality. The experiment was conducted in completely randomized design in net house with five replications. Five different Naga chilli germplasm were collected from different location of Sylhet and tested. All the growth parameters showed significant variation among the accessions tested. Growth conditions of all the accessions were satisfactory. Maximum fruit size and weight was obtained from CCJAI012 while the minimum was from CCJAI015.The highest green chilli yield (9.9 t/ha) was obtained from CCJAI010. The CCJAI010 produced comparatively smaller fruit but its exceptional deep green color in young stage and scarlet at mature is attractive to all.The germplasm CCJAI005 CCJAI010 and CCJAI015, should be further investigated for yield conformation to release as a variety.

The experiment was conducted during rabi season 2012-13 at CRS, Jaintiapur to select the promising germplasm of Naga chilli for releasing a variety having higher yield with better quality. Five different Naga chilli germplasm were collected from different locations of Sylhet and were evaluated. The experiment was conducted in completely randomized design in net house with five replications. Fertile sandy loam soil with pH 5.5-6.0 was used for filling the tub at nursery. Cow dung was mixed with the soil by 1:1 ratio. The soil was than fertilized with 500, 48.3, 79.2, 60, 55, 3 and 2.5 g/m3 of dolomite (agricultural lime), N, P, K, gypsum, zinc oxide and borax respectively and the tub was filled with that soil. The seeds were sown in earthen tub at 15th October 2012. 10 days old seedling was transferred in poly tub (4×3") and 32 days old seedling was planted in the experimental tub in net house at 17th November 2012. Each tub was considered as an experimental plot. In tubs were irrigated regularly. The tub was weeded regularly for reducing competition from weeds. As the experiment was conducted in the net house there were no insect infestation therefore no insecticide was applied. The plants were sprayed with carbendazime (Bavistin 50 WP @ 2g/L of water) twice at 7 days interval at 9th and 16th January 2013 respectively for controlling anthracnose disease if chilli. Weather data for the tenure of the study was recorded and presented in Table 1. Data on growth characteristics, yield and yield contributing characters, incidence of pests and diseases were recorded. The collected data was statistically analyzed by MSTAT-C programme and DMRT was performed for interpretation of results (Gomez and Gomez, 1984).

In the present study none of the crosses showed consistency for all the characters both over MP and BP.The positive significant values over MP was estimated in P3xP4 regarding all characters while positive significant values over BP was estimated in P4xP5 regarding number of fruit, weight of fruit and fruit breadth. Therefore, P3xP4 and P4xP5 may be considered the best cross combination regarding above parameters.
