The experiment was conducted at Plant Breeding Division Field lab, Joydebpur, Gazipur with 304 (nine set) maize inbred during November 2009 to Jun 2010. The objective was to find out degree of excess water tolerance in maize inbred lines. Screening was done by using cup method. The cup size was 500 ml (12 cm height, 10 cm diameter). Genotypes were exposed in excess water stress after germination. Each plastic tray (40cm x 28cm x 14cm) contained 6 cups. Four cup remained under normal condition outside the tray (as Check). Different morphological parameters were recorded during and after the 21 days of moisture stress treatments. On the basis of leaf chlorophyll content, root length, shoot length, root shoot ratio and plant survival percentage only 12 inbred lines were found partially tolerant to excess water stress at seedling stage and two (E26 and E80) are selected as a susceptible.
