The performance of a power operated beating machine and a decorticator was evaluated at Bandabila Jessore. Two power operated beating and decorticating machine were fabricated using local materials in a local workshop as per Vietnam made decorticator under financial support by COGENT project. These machines were distributed in three locations: RARS, Jessore, Barisal and Bandavila, Jessore. The machine was tested at different moisture contents and feeding rates of coconut husk. The capacity of the beating and decorticator were 2000 husk per hour and 900 husks per hour, respectively. The crushing conditions of green coconut husk were finer than brown husk of coconut. The capacity of the machines was found lower than that of prototype.

(a) To determine the performance of a beating machine and decorticator at different moisture contents of coconut husk.
(b) To determine the performance of this machine at different input rates /feeding rates of coconut husk.
(c) To compare the fibre quality of coir between improved and traditional methods.
Two power operated beating and decorticating machine were fabricated using local materials in a local workshop as per Vietnam made decorticator under financial support by COGENT project. These machines were distributed in three locations: RARS, Jessore, Barisal and Bandavila, Jessore. One of them was set up at Bandavila, Jessore. Beating and decorticating machine were set up on individual foundation and separate power unit. Brown coconut husk was collected from market of Jessore town and green husk was collected from farmers of Bandavila. Before starting, diameters of pulley of both machines were measured by scale. After starting, revolutions of unload and load condition were measured with a tachometer. Coconut husk was fed in the hopper of beating machine and crushing husk condition was observed. The crushing husk was fed in the hopper of the decorticator and the coir quality was estimated by eye. The moisture contents of the green and brown husk were measured by oven dry method by weight basis. Load condition, the revelation of these machines was recorded. The capacity of this machine was calculated.
Research Report
The performance test of the beating machine and decorticator was done with green and brown husk. The capacity and efficiency of these machines were lower than prototypes. It was also found that the diameter of machine pulley of these machines was smaller than required diameter of pulley. Therefore, revolutions of these machines were lower than recommended revolution.
